Re: PM: Device 00:08 failed to resume: error -19

I see the same thing happening on a fresh Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 installation -- sorry for offending anyone here, I like Gnome Shell ;) -- on an Acer Aspire V5 with touch screen and EFI after resume from suspend to ram in the syslog: dpm_run_callback(): pnp_bus_resume+0x0/0x80 returns -19 PM: Device 00:...

Re: LMDE: "unable to start settings manager "gnome-settings-

Bummer :( it happened again today... But this time, when I try to start gnome-settings-daemon in terminal, the message is different: ravanhagen@packard-bell:~$ /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon ravanhagen@packard-bell:~$ ** (gnome-settings-daemon:3093): WARNING **: Grab failed for...

Re: LMDE: "unable to start settings manager "gnome-settings-

It strikes me as funny that - as rufong points out - that /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/rgba_order has a default value (rgba) that is not listed as a possible value (rgb/bgr/vrgb/vbgr) ...

I've changed the value to rgb no too so let's see if I run into this problem again some day

Re: LMDE: "unable to start settings manager "gnome-settings-

Hi amina, thanks for sharing here... Since I'm on a completely different graphics chipset, the only comparison I see is the use of suspend instead normal(re)boots... I use hybernation a lot if I'm working on a long project and I have the impression this problem pops up around those days. Did anyone ...

Re: LMDE: "unable to start settings manager "gnome-settings-

Bah :( that 2 second timout is either not enough or it's not the way to go. Pumped it up to 4 seconds and see what happens for a while...

If not, I'll have to re-install ... or... i'll just have to live with this issue (that keeps popping up out of the blue once in a while)

Re: I get these errors in compatibility mode

If you are using LM 9/Isadora or possibly LMDE, you may be having trouble with kernel modesetting. If you are using LMDE, check HERE . If you are using LM 9, check HERE . Looking closer at your screenshot, based on the kernel version I guess you are using LM 10. I have not really heard of nomodeset...

from the blog: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1595 Because of a problem in mintdesktop 3.2.1, you’ll need to run the following commands to ensure a smooth upgrade: apt update sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/mintdesktop.prerm apt install mintdesktop This hiccup with mintdesktop is fixed in the version you’...

Re: Can't logout or shutdown [[NOT] SOLVED MIRACULOUSLY]

Okay, I think I got it this time. I bet you have the logout problem when (and only when) you are running the OpenOffice.org quickstarter. Try exiting the quickstarter and then logging out. It turns out this is a bug in OpenOffice, not Gnome. See here for more info: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/u...

And... hop! There is was again this morning. Out of the blue: same problem, same error.

TBAbill and viking777, thanks for the tips. I'm going to try editing in that Ubuntu fix and see if the problem comes back again before I decide to do a full reinstall.

Re: mintUpdate not warning about new updates

if you will click menu > Administration > update manager then click edit and preferences click on the auto refresh I have mine set for 15 minutes auto refresh. See if yours is set the same. No, I had that set to once an hour (59 minutes as you can see in the log files) instead of each 15 minutes. I...

mintUpdate not warning about new updates

Hi all, There is something funny going on with my mintUpdate on my LMDE 64bit install. It does not warn me about new updates unless I click the Update Management screen (clicking the shield icon in the systray) and I enter my password BEFORE it refreshes and comes back to tell me there are hundreds ...

It's just too bad this problem -- that started for me yesterday -- does not seem to magically disappear again... Re: Can't logout or shutdown [[NOT] SOLVED MIRACULOUSLY]

I wonder if this issue is because of the gnome-shell-metapackage that was causing issues earlier on. Answer one of the questions incorrectly, and that may be the cause of the issue. If the OP was talking about LMDE in the first place. Not Sure, but Worth A Look, Dave Could you please explain? Can't...

Re: Can't logout or shutdown [[NOT] SOLVED MIRACULOUSLY]

LM10 64-bit Logout and Shutdown have, inexplicably, just disappeared from the regular, Gnome system menu (that I use instead of the Mint Menu). What is the cause? How do I put them back? We are in the Debian Edition forum... And the topic is the logout/shutdown not working instead of the buttons mi...

Nobody? Then there might be a problem with mintUpdate on my LMDE install... Come to think of it, it has NEVER informed me about updates. Re: Can't logout or shutdown [[NOT] SOLVED MIRACULOUSLY]

Hi, I have found a similar thing happening on my LMDE installation. And I think I found how to reproduce it: If I do a clean boot and login, there is no problem loggin out / reboot /shutdown but... each time I have run the Mint Update Manager (and installing updates) I cannot log out / reboot or shu...
