Re: Pale Moon browser in the repos?

Three things:

1. Thank you for the PPA. I am typing this with Pale Moon as a result of it :)
2. I wholeheartedly agree that this should be in the repos
3. This should be the default browser in Mint in my personal opinion...but that probably will not happen due to the popularity of Firefox :)

Please add x265 support to the next point release

I have always relied on Linux Mint to be able to handle all of my multimedia files. And it has...up until recently. x265 is still not included in Mint (as of 17.2). I can add it to all players using a repository: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:strukturag/libde265 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get instal...

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

It was indeed a fresh install of Mint XFCE. It's really a shame as aside from that tearing it was an overall enjoyable desktop environment. I think an Nvidia card is the best bet to be honest. I always went Nvidia and never had issues, but recently went to an ATI 7770 (HIS brand) due to the performa...

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

I would like to add my experiences as of late to this. I tried the XFCE version and by far that was the worst experience. Mainly because of screen tearing. I own a AMD 7770 and have tried the 13.35 driver that mint installs, as well as the 14.6 beta driver. Even with turning on "tear free" and disab...

Add Xscreensavers to Mate

Since I am a screensaver kind of guy (I love them) and it seems there is very little love for them anymore (hence the lack of them in the Mate release), here are the steps to add the 200 or so great screensavers to Mint Mate 17: From terminal: sudo apt-get install xscreensaver-data-extra xscreensave...

Re: ATI Catalyst Center (Administrative) will not open

This is STILL a bug in Mint Mate & Cinnamon. It does not affect the KDE version apparently. Same fix as above, although there is a typo. it is not "amdccle", it is "amdcccle". So, to fix the steps: Steps: - Menu > Preferences > right-click "ATI Catalyst Control Center (Administrative)" > Edit Proper...

Banshee in Mate, why?

Forgive me for the users who actually like this software. It is only my opinion. Why this application is included in the Mate version is beyond me. If I perform a fresh Mint Mate 17 installation and then run this, it works for a minute or two and crashes. Then it refuses to launch again until I dele...

Re: Retroarch - Nobody uses it? For shame!

I've been using Kega Fusion and PCSX (dated) to run the games I wanted. Going to give this a go. Is there any extra prep work needed to get the roms up and running? With Kfusion all I have to do is open the files and gaming is set to go. With PCSX - I got to ecm the files in terminal then load them...

Retroarch - Nobody uses it? For shame!

For those unaware, this is a emulator engine that uses emulator cores from many popular emulators in one interface. Its like the ultimate all in one emulator that plays PSX, SegaCD, TGCD, NES, N64, SNES, Genesis, TG16, 2600, NDS, Mame, Mess and many more. It runs GREAT in Mint KDE (and most likely w...

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

Not a problem! Gaming is of a major importance to me when it comes to switching over from a Windows world. I have tried Gnome 3 derivatives (terrible for gaming), Unity (even worse), Mate (ok I guess, but not as fluid), XFCE (much better due to low resources and the way it works I suppose) and KDE a...

Re: LM-17 Cinnamon is not good for gamers.

Well, Gnome 3 (which Cinnamon is based off of) has not been nice to me in gaming at all. I am using an ATI AMD 7770 card with proprietary driver. I switched to the KDE version of Mint 17, and it is a night and day difference. One thing I did have to do is to turn on the nifty setting to turn off des...

Re: How is "Point Release" Ubuntu 14.04.1 handled in Mint?

The 14.04.1 release is very significant, especially for users with the Intel 7260 WIFI module in their systems. The current Mint (even the v2 respins) has issues with this. I installed Mint Cinnamon X64 14.01, Mint XFCE 14.01, and Mint Mate 14.01 and the internet over WIFI with the 7260 on all distr...

Re: No GUI on bootup (sometimes) - GTX 460 - Linux Mint 14

Interesting. Are you getting "KVM: disabled by BIOS" errors on bootup? I noticed these and enabled Intel Virtualization in the BIOS (ASUS P8P67 Pro rev 3.1 MB) and the errors went away. I did this unfortunately after formatting and loading Mint 14 Cinnamon x64. I have yet to experience the issue in ...

Re: No GUI on bootup (sometimes) - GTX 460 - Linux Mint 14

Well, guess I'll reply to myself here as it appears nobody else has experienced this (or nobody with a GTX 400 series card running Mint 14 MATE x64?) Anyway, I am able to reproduce this effect in the MATE version daily (multiple times). I bit the bullet and installed the Cinnamon release, and can co...

No GUI on bootup (sometimes) - GTX 460 - Linux Mint 14

Forgive me if this had been posted elsewhere, but I am running into an odd problem on occasion with the latest Linux Mint 14, my NVidia GTX 460, and "loosing" GUI on bootup. I am running the 304.43 driver that is the recommended driver from within the installer in Mint 14. The issue is that sometime...

Re: Wine and Pan Newsreader Question.

If you are not dead set on Pan, you can try Klibido. If not that, Grabit (for windows) works just fine with Wine.
