Re: LMDE - Mate Login & Password?
I have the exact same problem. Unbelievable that they burned an image that required a login, then never told anyone what the log in was. I got so fed up, downloaded Mint Maya, and found that it would not let me install because it didn't know what the root partions was, and told me to set it in the p...

Re: UP4 Issues
Well, I have to agree with you. I broke down and installed Update Pack 4, and I can't even use Gnome 3. No panels, no way to access a menu or anything else, COMPLETELY useless. I installed Cinnamon. It works, but I HATE it. YUCK! I installed MATE. It's Gnome 2, but everything I liked about Gnome 2 n...

Re: No updates?
LMDE is dead. I don't blame anyone, but seriously: more than three months without a single update? I mean, there is a difference between "having concerns about security" and the current situation - it's not a good idea to be using LMDE right now. No information about anything, it should j...

Fixed: Update Pack 3 with ATI video drivers on AMD 64bit
Well, the problem got so bad, I booted the old kernel, but the problem continued, though not as frequently. So the problem is apparently with ATI's 11.9 driver, not the new kernel. So, I reinstalled the 11.8 driver, and all seems to be fine again.

Update Pack 3 with ATI video drivers on AMD 64bit
Before installing the Update Pack 3, I changed the sources as suggested by mint-update, and downloaded the latest ATI drivers from their website, just in case. After installing UP3, I rebooted, and sure enough, had just a blinking cursor. So, I rebooted to maintenance mode, installed the new ATI dri...

(FIXED) Minor cursor issue with ATI driver
I just found there is a new version of the Catalyst driver on the ATI site. I downloaded it, and it fixes the "stuck cursor" problem.

Re: Minor cursor issue after complete Update Pack 2 install
According to the ATI forum, this is a bug in the 64 bit Catalyst driver, and still hasn't been fixed. I did search around, and found a temporary workaround. It's not pretty, for me the cursor now flickers a lot, and disapears when it isn't moving, but at least it doesn't get stuck in the corner anym...

Re: These Update Packs are still lacking some quality contro
Why not? People who demand greater stability can use Linux Mint in it's other various forms. LMDE is a rolling release, and will always be slightly imperfect. Do you not understand that? I don't know if you are trying to be a **** or not, but you conveniently left out my previous sentence (talked a...

Re: These Update Packs are still lacking some quality contro
Linux Mint is currently the #2 Linux distro by popularity and in order to maintain the respect of this distro, things like this cannot happen. Testing repositories or not. Why not? People who demand greater stability can use Linux Mint in it's other various forms. LMDE is a rolling release, and wil...

Re: These Update Packs are still lacking some quality contro
We keep going in circles over and over again. If you can't handle the imperfections that are inherent to a rolling release, you should use something else. This release is based on TESTING. Perhaps you don't understand that this isn't Ubuntu/Canonical, where a billionaire can throw around endless am...

Congrats on completely missing the point. Congrats on being a complete a-hole. I installed them, and don't have any problem. If you are so disturbed by such little things, perhaps you should try a different distribution. What some of us are saying is that Clem and the Mint team know which packages ...

Re: These Update Packs are still lacking some quality contro
Well, the update pack info does tell you which packages to ignore. All you have to do is click on them, and select "ignore", and you won't see them again.

Re: PB with installing the non free Nvidia driver
One more questions on that topic. Knowing that the pack 2 is about to arrive in latest what gonna happen to my system: new kernel will destroy my curent nvidia driver (the one I installed manually) so I guess that after update I will have to boot to terminal and perform the proper install of nvidia...

(FIXED) Minor cursor issue after complete Update Pack 2
I'm set up to use the "latest" repo, and installed the Update Pack 2, in it's entirety, yesterday. I'm happy to report that even though I let it update EVERYTHING, (I unpinned everything I had pinned), my proprietary ATI drivers still work fine, and I can now even boot to the latest kernel...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 2 july 2011
I've noticed workarounds for Nvidia, and was wondering if anyone has come up with one for fglrx/Catalyst drivers yet. One other quick question - does the breakage occur with all kernels, or does it only affect the 2.6.39 variety? It took several months for ATI to come out with a Catalyst driver tha...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 2 july 2011
I rebooted, and what should I find, the driver is active again. Yeah, the ATI driver even warns you after install to reboot your system, as it might become unstable. The flip side of that coin is that you might not realize that an update has borked your video until you reboot. And with Linux, I don...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 22 june 2011
The mesa update messed up my nvdia drivers too, but somehow i managed to get my mint back in track :F What i did: 1- Luckyly i had added the debian squeeze repository a while ago, so i installed back the old libgl1-mesa-glx package ( sudo apt-get install liblgl1-mesa-glx/stable ), wich at the same ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 22 june 2011
Hmmm, these updates are becoming a major problem which strongly hints of a badly needed revamp how how LMDE/X is updated. I know that an overhaul of the updating process is in the works and a respin is going to be released sometime in the future but all these rather major breakages occurring lately...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 15 june 2011
@ exaeresis and @malligt, ...recommendation is to enable all updates I'd like to add the caveat that if you have proprietary drivers on your system, that could eventually break your system. I lost my video recently because I wasn't paying attention and let some "mesa" updates through (the...
