Re: Mint Keeps Dropping WIFI | Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565

Disabling power management for the WiFi chipset, as JeremyB already advised, is very often beneficial in these case: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=300993#p1680075 Thanks Pjotr, I did check that and WIFI Power Management was OFF. Since switching back to 4.18, my WIFI connection h...

Re: Mint Keeps Dropping WIFI | Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565

Thanks Lex. So far so good with 4.18. But if it shows up again, I'll try the 5.0.0.25 kernel. Didn't have these problems until I upgraded to 19.2, but correlation doesn't equal causation.

Re: Mint Keeps Dropping WIFI | Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565

Well, boot repair got me back into my system. Apparently the kernels were still there. Something else took the hit. Probably grub itself. Anyway, I'm currently running kernel 4.18.0-04 which, I think, was just installed by Mint update.

Now to see if the WIFI problems continue.... good grief.

Re: Mint Keeps Dropping WIFI | Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565

Well.... Isn't that special. I just borked my system downgrading my kernel. Not a hundred percent sure it was me. Downgraded. Everything worked fine. Updated and upgraded. Apt recommended autoremove, and autoremove, I think, cleaned out all my kernels. All I'm left with is Memtest. Am presently down...

Thanks. I'll try both. The Kernel upgrade was an attempt to fix the problem.

Mint Keeps Dropping WIFI | Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565

This seems to be an ongoing problem with Linux Mint, and I've seen solutions for RTL drivers, but not for Qualcomm. Any help would be appreciated. At present the WIFI drops every three to four minutes. Linux Mint Version: System: Host: vtpoet-Lenovo-Yoga-2-11 Kernel: 5.2.11-050211-generic x86_64 bit...

19.2 Regression: White Line on Desktop Screen Edge

I updated to 19.2. And this bug showed up: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/5228 The only workaround so far is to turn off desktop icons. I tried different themes, including the Mint Theme, but only turning off icons has worked. Has this happened to anyone else and, if so, are there bett...

Re: Linux 19.1 - Screen Blinks...

Could be. All I know is out of two computers that both are running NVIDIA graphics, it only happened on one of them, and reinstalling from a 19.1 ISO fixed it. I tried different driver versions and a few other things before giving up and just reinstalling. Would be nice to know what setting is caus...

Re: Linux 19.1 - Screen Blinks...

No, I didn't add it. The last time a twiddled with settings like these was to tweak XFCE4's compositor issues. I eventually quit using XFCE4 because of tearing---lost patience. It's possible that Mint's setting is hardware dependent...

Re: Linux 19.1 - Screen Blinks...

Thanks Yfrwif, over at the Linux Mint Blog, where you also posted a comment, a possible solution was mentioned further down: Everything works fine by removing the (useless option ?) “CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling” in the /etc/environment file and after the upgrade. I've tried...

Re: Anyone else get flickering desktop backgrounds and windows periodically on NVIDIA cards in Cinnamon?

Just upgraded to Linux Mint 19.1 and am experiencing severe flickering and misplaced frames (window elements flickering back and forth between former and current states): System: Host: vtpoet-Lenovo-Yoga-2-11 Kernel: 4.18.0-041800-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.8 Distro: Linux Mint 19...

semantics matter. but I said it 3 times now, I'm outta here, gl further.
SO WHAT!?!

"User home directories are excluded by default unless you enable them here."

Tell me what part of that you don't get and we can proceed if you want.

Re: Timeshift's Absurd Space Requirements?

Yeah. You looked up the wrong definition, the definition you should have looked up is "playing semantics", not "semantics". What I was responding to was this: "Timeshift only automatically excludes mounts in /mnt and /media..." And for the sake of accuracy: This is simply wrong. I can't speak for Ti...

Re: Timeshift's Absurd Space Requirements?

Timeshift only automatically excludes mounts in /mnt and /media, everything else is your own responsibility to exclude. Not true. Wrong. The post says "excludes mounts" <--- mounts. Wrong. The post also says " everything else is your own responsibility to exclude. " <--- everything else That's demo...

Not true. On both my mint installations, Timeshift automatically excluded all home folders.

Re: Timeshift's Absurd Space Requirements?

Nevermind, I figured it out. When I installed Mint, I formatted a secondary partition and called it "/storage". I use this for my home directory via symlinks. Once I filtered out /storage/**, the absurd space requirements went away. This is interesting because everything on storage is, in a sense, t...

Timeshift's Absurd Space Requirements?

Why does Timeshift demand over 260 Gigabytes of free space for an installation that only uses 26 Gigs?!? All home directories are excluded.

I dont know if the bad commit exists even in the newest 4.4 kernel so you might want to install it to get the latest security updates.
Sorry to be uninformed, but where do I obtain the latest 4.4 kernel for Mint?
