Re: Screen resolution trouble in LMDE

You may want to try this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=76085#p444558 Well, I haven't done that because I just haven't had this problem again, even though I didn't have any software updates until yesterday. It's just unbelievable how random this problem is. Now I'm having other t...

Re: Screen resolution trouble in LMDE

I have just found out that there's no xorg.conf file in /etc/X11. Might that have something to do? should I create that file?

Screen resolution trouble in LMDE

Hi. A few days ago I started using LMDE 201109 Gnome 32 bits and in general it's fine, but I have a problem with the resolution of my screen: I'm using a laptop with a 15.4" screen and a resolution of 1280 x 800. However, most times I boot, the operating system sets the resolution at only 1024 x 768...

Re: lmde screen resolution problems

I had a similar problem, almost burned my brain trying to solve it, I learned a lot about drivers, resolution, EDID and so on and finaly... The problem was the monitor's data cable that was not properly adjusted, so it didn't pass to the graphics card the monitor's information. So before you worry ...

Re: lmde screen resolution problems

I have a similar problem: I just installed LMDE a few days ago, and in my case the problem is that SOMETIMES the resolution is bad (you see things like stretched, like when you are using Windows XP and you haven't installed the graphic drivers yet), while other times it is fine. I.e, it's not a cons...

Re: Should I try Mint?

there is nothing you can do in Windows, that you can't do in Linux. And usually, better, easier and faster. Except playing games and using some other programs that are only for Windows (Wine and PlayonLinux are not full working yet), as Pinnacle Studio, which can capture video from my Mini DV camco...

Compatibility layer for Mac apps?

Hi, I'm asking this question in this Linux Mint forum but I could do it in the forum of any other distro or in a Linux general one. The thing is: you know there is Wine, a compatibility layer to attempt to execute Windows' programs in Unix based operating systems, like Linux, FreeBSD and Mac OS X. B...

Re: Automatic languaje support warning

The main edition, first because is the most recommended in the download page, and second because I think (if I'm not wrong), that the universal doesn't come with propietary technologies like Flash and codecs.

Automatic languaje support warning

Hi, I'm new in Linux Mint after some time using Ubuntu, and I'm from a Spanish speaking country. As I said in a previous post, one of the features of Linux Mint that attracted me most, is that it comes with some things, like Flash Player and codecs, that in Ubuntu have to be installed after the OS. ...

Re: about ubuntu-restricted-extras package

Thank you all for the replies, now I see it much more clearly.

But don't Microsoft's propietary fonts affect the web browser in some pages?

Re: How to view file extensions?

Well, I inserted my pendrive with lots of files inside to see if I could see the extensions, and discovered that extensions are really shown, but what happens in fact is that many files have no extension, and in spite of that, they are recognized by Nautilus file browser as video files if they are v...

How to view file extensions? (SOLVED)

Hi, I'm a new user of Linux Mint and I have noticed that when I browse folders with Nautilus, the file extensions are hidden, something that doesn't happen in Ubuntu (which uses Gnome and Nautilus too). This is particularly bad when I want to search for all the files of the same type: for example if...

Re: about ubuntu-restricted-extras package

Well, I can try, but I think that it implies downloading and installing things that I already have, like the mentioned Flash Player and codecs, so maybe there are other lighter packages which allow to have the same things.

about ubuntu-restricted-extras package

Hi, I'm new in the forum and have just installed Linux Mint after one year using Ubuntu. One of the features of LM that attracted me most was that, being compatible with Ubuntu's packages and repositories, LM however comes with some propietary technologies (like Flash Player and some codecs) out of ...
