LightDM failing to start (until manually restarted)

I have Mint 18.2 running on a bunch of systems at work and home. They were all upgrade from Mint 18.1. When upgrading, Mint continues to use the MDM display manager, and I wanted to switch them to using LightDM. I saw this post ( https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=253632&p=1365999&hi...

Re: Kernel 4.4 Intel Graphics Problems

I have the same issue on a Skylake-based Eurocom Monster4 laptop. This particular laptop has a Nvidia 970m on it, so as along as I run on that things are okay, but switch to the Intel for the sake of battery life, and I get the awful tearing. For a time, I was able to get both working reasonably wel...

Mouse cursor getting stuck on wrong cursor

So here's one I've not encountered before; I installed Linux Mint 16 w/Cinnamon on my mother's laptop (a Dell Latitude D620, 3G RAM, 120g SSD). While it's awesome I was able to convince her to not use XP any more and switch to Linux, she's got this one weird issue where the cursor will get stuck on ...

Re: Losing Battery power even when laptop is off

So update: powered down the laptop on Friday, locked it in the draw at work as usual. Come back this morning and the battery is at 32%. This is a really odd issue - the laptop has absolutely no indication that anything is on or running, but it's obviously doing something. As an ultrabook, I can't re...

Losing Battery power even when laptop is off

So here's a weird one. I upgraded my HP Envy-Pro 4 (rev b000) Ultrabook to Mint 16, and for the most part, everything works great. One oddity I noticed the next day though - the battery had worn down a little overnight. This is a work system, so at the end of the day, it's unplugged and locked in a ...

Re: Screen Tearing, Nvidia 660M on Mint 13, Cinnamon

@Homerscousin - yes, that's video tearing. It's definitely not a problem limited solely to Nvidia cards, just happens to be worse with Nvidia cards than most in Linux. Then again though, even if I boot the system in Windows 7, I still get screen tearing on video. It's really leading me to believe th...

Re: Screen Tearing, Nvidia 660M on Mint 13, Cinnamon

Updated drivers to 310.19, still have the tearing issue. Bellow is my xorg.conf, if that assists in troubleshooting: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "LGD" HorizSync 44.4 - 66.6 VertRefresh 39.9 - 59.9 Option "DPMS" # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: ...

Screen Tearing, Nvidia 660M on Mint 13, Cinnamon

Hello all. I've been though quite a few forums to try and find solutions to this issue, but it still seems to plague me. One common fix for many Nvidia cards is to use the Nvidia-settings manager to set the PowerMizer from the default "Adaptive" to "Prefer Maximum Performance". While that's worked o...

Re: How to change Cinnamon window theme

See 5h in this thread Yep, that definitely works. One note to add - you might have to install the gconf-editor; the only one that I had installed was the mate-editor, which is a throwback to the Gnome 2 editor. So for those unsure of where to get it, just type this in a terminal: sudo apt-get insta...

Re: How to change Cinnamon window theme

Small update - I have installed the Daniel4lm themes, thinking that perhaps Cinnamon requires a custom theme to change the Window borders, but it still will not show anything but the Adwaita one. Has anyone successfully changed their window borders/themes under Cinnamon? If so, how?

Re: How to change Cinnamon window theme

Agreed - this is a problem for me as well. I updated a work system and my home system (both on Mint 12) to Cinnamon yesterday and cannot seem to change the Windows borders from anything but the default Adwaita theme. GTK+ and other changes work fine. Is there a bug here?

Re: Top pannel- love or hate?

I cannot STAND the top panel. The inability to remove it actually made me switch to XFCE as the primary shell. MATE is promising but is also essentially still an Alpha-stage product. I understand it's useful to have the ability to put panels in all locations, but I'm a bit stunned that the panel was...

Re: Suspend/Resume issue (originally did work)

Ah ha! I figured it out. The issue was not in the ACPI configuration, but rather with the video configuration. I had forgotten that one thing I had to do in the past was edit the xorg.conf file to add an option in telling the system to use the video drivers AGPgart support rather than rely on the ke...

Suspend/Resume issue (originally did work)

I've been using Mint for a while now on an older Compaq R3000 AMD-based laptop. Prior to Helena, I had to edit the acpi-support file to tweak various settings to get the suspend/resume to work correctly. When I upgraded from Gloria to Helena, suspend continued to work fine. The other night, I had a ...
