Re: In Praise of "Kiddie" Distros
I think there's a place for distros such as Mint, Manjaro and Gecko which come with all the software you are likely to want already installed and are ready to use as soon as you've installed them. There's a third option though; there are distros such as Absolute (based on Slackware) and Bunsen (base...

Re: Two pendrives mapped to the same folder on installation
Just a quick update; I've found a fix for my computer setup by adding a new folder (/boot/efi2) and changing the fstab file to direct the second pendrive to it, so following a reboot it's all working well now with both pendrives mounted.

Two pendrives mapped to the same folder on installation
Hi. I have two pendrives plugged into USB sockets at the back of my desktop machine, which show up when I lsblk it as devices /mnt/sdb1 and /dev/sdc1. I've just installed Mint 4.0 Debbie and everything went well except for one thing; the installation tried to map both my pendrives to the same folder...

Hi,
There's also an excellent add-on for Firefox called One Tab, which converts all your open tabs into a list that you can then click on to open whichever ones you want. I find it saves a lot of memory;

Re: Window tiling
WindowMaker allows you to "maximise" windows either to halves (horizontally or vertically) or to quarters, which can easily be used for tiling. I've used this feature when I've had a program's registration code sent to me by -e-mail and I'm trying to enter the same code to install the prog...

and I also can't see a .files folder in my home directory I suppose you mean .fonts :) Oops! Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry, I have a /files folder on my pendrive so I'm used to saying that :) I'm no expert but in my opinion there are some forgotten dots in the UP7-packages. In fonts.conf (thread ...

Re: Dialog box unreadable after Update Pack 7 installation
Thanks for your reply! I'm looking at the thread you linked to right now, and I also can't see a .files folder in my home directory (last but one post in that thread), so that looks like the problem right there.

Dialog box unreadable after Update Pack 7 installation
Hi. I've recently installed Update Pack 7 into Mint DE, and mostly it went without a hitch except for one thing; the text in the dialog boxes now consists purely of blank rectangles (meaning the font is missing) so I'm no longer able to read what the various options are. Is there an easy fix for thi...

Adding items to Mint's master menu
Hi again. Most items which I install to Mint's master menu (the one which shows up in every window manager I use) add their own entries to the menu, but there are some which don't, like Seamonkey, or even don't have packages you can install from the repositories so you have to do the whole installat...

Re: Linux Mint 12 LXDE released!
Thank you for a fine release of Mint LXDE. I'm new to Mint and so far really enjoying it. I have Mint 12 with Cinnamon on my main laptop and this lite version is running well on my old, old Satellite A65. Very limited resources in this laptop and no, it doesn't have a webcam built in so a lite vers...

Re: Linux Mint 12 LXDE released!
Hi. Just installed gkrellm and am running Mint 12 LXDE live. With one terminal open and firefox running, Gkrellm shows 240 MB in use and 265 MB of swap. AFAIK it's no heavier on resources than Mint 11 LXDE was, which is a very good result.
Thanks for another fine release,
CP .

How can I install Portabase in Mint Debian?
Hi. I've become fond of the Portabase flatfile database program in another distro and would like to install it in Mint Debian, which I'm running at the moment. I downloaded the .deb file from the Portabase website and tried to install it using dpkg -i, but it seems to need a library I can't download...

Re: Linux Mint E17
The text based installer was already suggested in other threads but is not necessary because you can install Mint 11 with less than 256MB of RAM. If you have 512MB of RAM or less make sure you have a SWAP partition before running the installer, if necessary use Puppy or other low RAM distro do crea...

Yeah, so do I but if I had to have just one it would be Seamonkey, with Opera in second place.Matti L wrote:I agree! Why choose if you don't have to?KBD47 wrote:I never have just one browser on a computer. I currently have Opera, Chrome, and Firefox. I say the more the merrier.

Re: Linux Mint E17
Yeah I think you're right, the problem seems to be in the installation. I've seen someone else say (on a different distro's forum) that his installation on Mint 11 LXDE slowed to a crawl at the same point mine did, and he also had 512 MB of RAM. Once it was installed though, he said it ran fine. I'm...
