Re: Configuring VPN in Network-Manager
Who told you to uninstall the network manager??
For VPN, you need to install the additional package for the network manager.
After the installation, you just add another connection for OpenVPN.

Re: Unable to install Mint 17.1 as a dual boot with Win7
Any specs on the computer you are installing? Also, try burning the iso again, as it might be a bad burn. Next, jus to be sure it is bootable, boot the DVD to another computer and see it is good.

Re: How to mount my Windows disks in LinuxMint 17.1
So the problem here is "auto mouting the drives" on startup right? You can read this to use the GUI Dissk program. http://askubuntu.com/questions/271516/is-there-a-program-to-mount-all-of-my-drives-automatically If the above still fails you, we can help you manually automount the drives. P...

HHmm.. for overheating, the first thing I'll look out is to clean the fans and grill. No matter how you control/tweak the fans, if they can't properly circulate the air, you'll have temperature problems.

Re: How to launch installed packages
If it's not on the menu, it's developers probably hasn't updated it yet to support adding menu in Cinnamon. Some minimalist or old apps are like that. If the Pysolfc is installed you can try running it from the RUN command: Press Alt+F2 and then type "pysolfc" or from the terminal, just ty...

Most application installed from the software won't add any icon to the desktop. They probably be only on the Mint Menu so look for the application name in there.
Or is it also missing on the Mint Menu? What application did you installed?

Re: Internal HDD partition is mounted as a removable device?
Hi everyone, I've just installed Mint on a new mSATA drive, so now I can use my internal HDD for data storage. I partitoned the data drive with one massive ext4 partition, and let the Disks utility handle the mounting. Unfortunately, it mounts it as a removable device. This is not good! Looking in ...

I'm not on Mint at the moment. Is "alsamixer" still installed on Mint?
You can try opening it from the terminal.
I remember you can have settings there that you can increase the pre-amp of the sound output. Worth a try I think.

Do you have any add-ons installed for firefox?
Also, this error I think is common on heavily updating websites and happens when your browser is opened to long periods without you refreshing the page. I get this error often (not everyday but i certainly notice it).

If you don't have fancy graphics drivers like cuda or radeon, the default kernel drivers for intel chipsets should do just fine.

Re: apt and config file modifications - /etc/bash.bashrc
By saying "using Mint not Ubuntu" i meant Mint (not LMDE). Although Mint is based from Ubuntu, a lot changes were being made under the hood in order to streamline the experience designed for usability of new users, e.i. adding more GUI programs. I remember a thread a few months back having...

Re: apt and config file modifications - /etc/bash.bashrc
From what I've read so far about apt (dpkg), when it detects a change it is suppose to ask which file to keep. Does this mean that you could potentially lose modifications? Yes. It asks if what you want to keep, but it won't backup anything for you. With apt, do you need to open up another console ...
