Re: Preparing to upgrade from LM 17.3 to LM 19.3 (SOLVED)

Joe, that would be a disappointment but thank you for letting me know. KDE on 18.3 is rather lacking compared to the latest. I'm running KDEneon on another partition for fun and it's impressive. Still, I won't be leaving Mint. I've been with Clem for about 15 years and Mint is just a rock. Rafe P.S....

Re: Preparing to upgrade from LM 17.3 to LM 19.3 (SOLVED)

Very glad to hear it. I think norm.h and rickNS offered some great advise about those hidden files. I'll upgrade to the new KDE when it's released, hopefully later this month, and I'll refer back to this thread.

Re: Preparing to upgrade from LM 17.3 to LM 19.3

Backing up bookmarks in Firefox is dead simple. Just went through that exercise.

I can't help you with Thunderbird although I suspect it's simple too. A little "googling" should provide the answer.

Re: Do I Really Need A VPN on Linux Mint

Moem, I doubt that you're missing anything. I know there are DIY ways of doing it, such as: https://support.cyberghostvpn.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007929314-How-to-configure-OpenVPN-for-Linux-Ubuntu-18-04-with-network-manager- Didn't want to spend an afternoon hassling with it though.

Re: Do I Reall Need A VPN on Linux Mint

I use a VPN for on-line shopping and banking and always when using a public wifi. The cost is modest, about $2/month, it's a no-log company based in a non-14-eyes country and it gives me some inexpensive peace of mind. If I were doing something that the CIA, FBI, NSA, KGB, etc. really wanted to know...

Re: Nouveau video "streaking" problem

I'm having similar problem with Linux Mint 14 KDE. Rendering is fine for a time but eventually the screen image is corrupted in a couple of ways. Either I'll get vertical bands of colored horizontal stripes or vertical lines that look like sand or dirt on each side of the cursor or down the side of ...

Re: Linux Mint Developer - Remastersys

Thanks, twa. It worked! :D Here are the steps: 1. You should install squashfs-modules for your kernel and either aufs-modules or unionfs-modules before you install remastersys. http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/debian.html 2. Rebooted. 3. Added remastersys repository to /etc/apt/sources.list...

Re: Linux Mint Developer - Remastersys

Like rjs, I am also interested in a version of "remastersys" that will work with Linux Mint DE. I'm running LMDE which I have frozen in Squeeze (so to speak) with the old Gnome. I have everything working just like I want it and now I want to preserve it. I tried to download the "Debia...

Re: LMDE KDE version

Unfortunately, that 's the case. :( See post 15: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1908 I did not bothet to ask why. So, if you want LMDE KDE, start with Mint Xfce and then add kde-standard desktop. Or, install pure debian testing and then add the linux mint packages you want. (i prefer the la...

CD/DVD won't mount [SOLVED]

Recently, I installed the latest “Linux Mint Debian Edition”. Like it a lot and plan to keep it. There was a problem, however, with automounting and even mounting CDs and DVDs. I would slide in a CD or DVD, blank or otherwise, but the OS would not open it. I used the command line, changed /etc/fstab...

"Linux Mint -- A Linux from the land of green worth its name" http://knolinux.com/2007/03/01/linux-mint.aspx This is an excellent review of Mint. Clem, you were most articulate. As for your comments regarding FSF and Stallman, I commend you. Being the gentleman that you are, you were ever ...

Etch is my primary distro, but I use Bea frequently. (I also play with sidux which has its toes hanging over the edge.)
