Re: Update Manager says apt cache corrupted switch to different mirror

Thanks for trying. Those 2 other repos are on my list above, but you have to scroll in the code text pane. I added a little more to my code segment to show that there was nothing in /etc/apt/sources.list.

I appreciate your trying to help!

Kindly,

Re: Update Manager says apt cache corrupted switch to different mirror

That what I was saying I had already done. I actually changed it serveral times, but the offending one is the Linux Mint Betsy side (not the debian jessie side). Also, both are find when doing a apt-get update && apt-get upgrade. I can install a deb with: dpkg -i packagename.deb Without a hitch. The...

Update Manager says apt cache corrupted switch to different mirror

Hello, I am having a problem with GUI updates of LMDE. As can be seen from this picture, I have an error that says : http://i1363.removed/albums/r720/woodnt805/a1269be6-6343-4bdd-b495-7046d70ccda0_zpsy0phfnbi.png If it is too small to read, it says: Please switch to another Linux Mint Mirror Your AP...

Re: troubles with weather application

I'm so looking forward to a Gnome 3 app for weather, too, but alas, the site you linked to is for Ubuntu-based versions of Linux Mint and I, like you, am running LMDE. The Ubuntu ppa's are not (necessarily) compatible with Debian and there is risk to adding them to our Debian-based system repos. I'm...

Undesired screen dimming in Gnome 3

I had a recent update of Debian testing (tracking testing, not LMDE updates). Since then, when my screen times out after shutting my laptop screen, when I unlock the screen, the brightness is low. I have to run sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=FF To get my brightness back. I have "Dim screen to save powe...

How to change font colors on certain programs in Gnome 3

Since an upgrade (following debian testing), the font contrast is awful in Gnome Tweak and gnome-terminal tab buttons. I'll attach a screenshot. I'm not sure what I need to change. There are gnome-shell themes, windows themes, etc. I've changed them all, but nothing seems to change the font contrast...

Re: Root mail going to user "mail" instead of root user

I had done a: grep -R mail /etc/exim4 And didn't see anything interesting. I decided to do a: grep -R root /etc/exim4 And got an interesting hit that fits. In /etc/exim4/conf.d/mmm_mail4root (which should have giving me a hint but was among many other files so I couldn't see the forest for the trees...

[SOLVED] Root mail going to user "mail" instead of root user

I have started a cron job that will send something to the root mailbox. However, mail was getting nothing. I realized that in /etc/aliases, there was a line root: mint Since you can't log into the mint user (and /var/mail had no mint file), I commented out the root: mint line and did a: /etc/init.d/...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-8/n

A recent update of gir1.2-glib-2.0 to 1.31.0-2 (and/or maybe gjs 1.29 to 1.30) broke the Alt-F2 run command prompt in gnome-shell. Any command you try to run to execute something in your path results in a "Command not found" error. See the referenced bugs: 656054 & 816762 . The interface to gjs has...

Re: LMDE a sleeping distro?

I hadn't changed over to the new mintupdate-debian and the new package repos yet. What did I get for my laziness? A Gnome 3 debian-branded desktop. I wasn't happy at first because I was all ready to hate Gnome 3. However, after reading an article in Linux Format on Gnome 3, I decided I would give it...

Re: How to change face browser icon by GUI in GDM? No "About

You can change a user's icon in "User Accounts". You can access this via System Settings or by clicking the icon by your name in the gnome-shell. It is strange that "User Accounts" doesn't show up in my menu listings under Activities>Applications, including under All. It does find it if typing in f...

You can change a user's icon in "User Accounts". You can access this via System Settings or by clicking the icon by your name in the gnome-shell. Thank so much! I saw "Users and Groups" but my blind eyes never saw User Accounts. Thanks again. I figured I was missing something ridiculous simple. Kin...

[SOLVED] How to change face browser icon by GUI in GDM?

Hello, After an upgrade to Gnome 3, I can no longer find a GUI way to change the icon as there is no "About Me" anymore with Gnome 3, it seems. I know that this can be done manually by adding an "Icon=image" in /var/lib/AccountsService/users, but for my Gui users and those without admin, this is rat...

Re: Clock/weather applet shouldn't but requires admin privil

OK. I looked at my LM 9 system and compared it with my LMDE system for files with SUID and SGID bits on. I did: find / -mount -perm -u=s and find / -mount -perm -g=s I sorted these lists and did a meld on them. I didn't find anything suspicious. I will attach the tarball of the two systems if anyone...

Clock/weather applet shouldn't but requires admin privilages

I have recently switched from LM 9 to LMDE on this computer. Unlike any Ubuntu based distro I have ever used, to change my location (even if it is the same time zone) I have to give an admin password. On LM 9 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition, all I have to do is click set and it will let me change. I'm su...

Yes, ntp package is installed and is working. Should that relate to permissions on changing locations, though?

I would like to bump this thread. I have come to LMDE from Mint 9 (and past Ubuntu experience) but have no experience with Debian. I don't understand why to change my location, even when I try to change a location to a location within the same timezone, it asks for a password. This behavior is quit...

My pleasure. I can't contribute by programming (yet! I've been working on learning python), but I'm getting quite facile in the shell. I try to contribute with these things when I find them. Others have given so much of themselves to the Linux community. I'm so grateful and like to help others whene...

mintUpdate won't run at startup - HOWTO fix included in post

Hello, Noticed once again that my mintUpdate wasn't starting again at login. On the command line, I ran $ /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/mintUpdate.py [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/etc/linuxmint/mintUpdate.conf' checking permissions showed: $ ll /etc/linuxmint/mintUpdate.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root root...
