Brightness levels not remembered

There have been a few threads about this already but I haven't found one with a solid solution. My issue is with the OS not remembering the brightness level after the screen has dimmed. If I start using the machine again, the screen has gone all the way up to full brightness and I have to use the fn...

Re: best non-mint distro

Tried CrunchBang on an ageing Toshiba and it's very slick. Will stick with it if I can get my USB wireless to work (so far without success). If the Toshiba has a Realtek wifi chipset, they have drivers on their website. Easy install from the command line... Thanks for the advice. It's a Planex USB ...

Re: Crunchbang "Statler" (Debian-based) OS

Recently installed CrunchBang Statler on my ageing Toshiba that was literally buckling under XP. I haven't really had a chance to mess around with it yet because it won't recognise the wireless USB. I can't seem to identify said device using the lspci command. Anyway, I'm chuffed that a laptop I'd p...

Re: wine doesnt work with LMDE

I've been trying to run Exact Audio Copy (EAC) on LMDE (via Wine) with absolutely no success. Managed to get it installed but the program hangs / crashes whenever I open it. Rubyripper it will have to be.

Re: EAC unresponsive in Wine [LMDE]

Thanks for the tip. Would you be able to give me an example of a 'just run' copy of EAC?

EAC unresponsive in Wine [LMDE]

I've installed Exact Audio Copy via Wine and the program is hanging whenever I open it. I used an older version of EAC (0.99 beta 5) - newer versions were failing to start with Wine apparently. But no luck.

Could this be an LMDE issue or something unrelated. Any ideas appreciated thanks.

Re: Location of external dvd drive...?

Ah, it's all good. I ran mount in the terminal.

The only thing now is that I don't have read & write permissions apparently.

Location of external dvd drive...?

A quick question: I've just plugged in an external dvd drive. I'm using it to burn cd's in rubyripper and I need to enter the device location in the preferences menu. Unfortunately, I'm not too sure how to find this out. According to the device properties, it's: computer:/// but that doesn't seem ri...

Re: Creating a single unbroken audio file in Linux

Ok, so I finally came across this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-819965.html Apparently Rubyripper has an option in its preferences to 'Rip CD to single file'. However I have RR installed and I can't say I've come across this option. It looks like ABCDE ripper is my best bet. Ju...

Creating a single unbroken audio file in Linux

I listen to a lot of DJ mixes and because my Sony walkman doesn't support gapless playback, I was hoping to rip these discs to a single mp3 file. Does anyone know of any applications out there that have this feature? I've been using EAC for general ripping but I don't believe that it supports this f...

Re: Ctrl-Alt-Del vs. Full Restart

GrayWizard konnichi wa, thanks for the response and also for the link to the wireless thread. Actually, my connection has been alright recently. I guess it could be a whole host of possible reasons. I'll leave it for the moment but I will refer to that thread next time :)

Ctrl-Alt-Del vs. Full Restart

I'm slightly confused by the the usefulness of Ctrl-Alt-Del. My wireless is intermittently dropping out and instead of going to another room to restart the wireless box, I thought I would use this feature (unique to Mint?) to reset my connection. However, a quick ctrl-alt-delete reboot didn't seem t...

Re: Trouble launching an application... Where is it?

Ah, ok thank you. For some reason I thought it had a GUI. Maybe I was confusing it with another app. I will read the blurb and have a go at launching from the command line

[Solved] Trouble launching an application... Where is it?

I'm trying to launch a program (Abcde cd ripper) but am unable to find it in the list of applications under the menu. I used to have an icon on the desk top but that has gone too. I've searched for the program in Nautilus but am unsure which file I can use to launch it. Any help appreciated thanks. ...
