Re: Dependency issues in Linux Mint 13
Next time, please just copy & paste the text from the terminal into a post. We can't copy and paste bits from the screenshots to help you  The problem is from installing Gnome 3 where GDM is trying to overwrite a file that is also installed by MDM. Fixing this is probably easy (by telling...

Re: access shutdown / logout without clicking?
Thanks, yeah, that seems to take just a few more keystrokes than I'd like, as I'd have to type "sudo pm-suspend/-hibernate" or "sudo shutdown -h/-r now" and then give root password to get it to actually take the command. Turns out, though, that hitting the power button brings up ...

access shutdown / logout without clicking?
Is there any way to include "Shutdown" and "Logout" in the menu via keyboard entry? I love the fact that I can just hit Super and start entering application name and hit return (just like with Gnome Shell and like with Kupfer in Gnome 2.x); however, with Kupfer, at least, I could...

Re: Tearing free Gnome 3
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and I thought I share this thing that made my day today. I have a lenovo X220 laptop with intel i5 sandy bridge hd 3000 graphics and I had some tearing when dragging the windows around under Gnome 3 and mutter. It didn't happen with compiz, strangely. But I thi...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate
I disabled the bottom panel extension. With the window list up in the top panel and the "hot corner" mouse-over deactivated, I more or less have the same Gnome experience I used to have under Gnome 2 -- but if I want to use the Activities launcher with the super key, I have it. This is gre...

Re: Gnome3 for the inexperienced
I actually very much like Gnome 3, I have to say. I've tried out Unity, too, and I dislike it immensely. I'd actually decided that I was going to go to XFCE (or KDE) full-time because of Gnome 3 and Unity. Now that I've been using it for a week or so in Fedora, I find I like it a lot. More so than I...

Re: [Solved]KDE 10RC: textures and graphic issuses
I installed the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates ppa to get the latest and greatest stable Intel video drivers. I was having lots of problems with scrolling and text rendering, especially in Firefox and Chromium. Updating the xorg packages fixed it for me, at least. Hi, I added the ppa, but I am not sure wh...

Re: Get PCLinuxOS 2010 To Boot With GRUB2 Controlling GRUB
Thanks for this guide! I used it for dual-booting with Pardus 2011 Beta 2, which uses Grub Legacy (and had taken over my bootloader, leaving my Ubuntu partition unbootable until I reinstalled Grub2).

Re: HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
The Debian Live site has a *great* KDE 4.4.5 live ISO. I'm running it right now off a USB drive -- the only things that aren't nearly perfect out of the box are that Iceweasel is ugly (no GTK appearance control panel installed) and touchpad tapping isn't working immediately. Might be worth checking ...

Re: HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
I've not been able to get it to work either, FWIW. Then again, I tend to use the command-line or synaptic to install packages.knireis wrote:thanks, that did it
Next issue, the software manager does not start, it is in the menu but when i click it nothing happens. The package manager works fine.

Re: HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
seemed to have solved my problem although I couldn't tell you how  Glad you solved it, regardless of how it happened! That's a weird error, though. I used to get it if I installed gnome-core under Ubuntu from a minimal iso, but it would be for the fast-user-switch-applet, which isn't installa...

Re: HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
Excellent! thanks very much I'll try this out when I get some spare time =] Also I think there's a slight error under point 4 Note: if you want the distro to stay "rolling" once Squeeze goes "stable," substitute the word "testing" for "squeeze" above. I think...

Re: HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
As an addendum to the above: I discovered if I wanted to use the new mint-flashplugin package (that has the new Square plugin) that's in Romeo (it's the same version that's in Mint 10 RC), it conflicts with not only the flashplugin-nonfree package, but also the mint-meta-debian package (and everythi...

Re: HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
Excellent work, this is basically what I have done except I haven't really changed the basic Debian-Gnome base. I then installed the LMDE items using the MInt-Meta package. Thanks, yeah, there's a number of ways one could do this -- you could use a standard Squeeze install CD or DVD or the Debian L...

HOWTO: Create a custom, minimal LMDE install
This tutorial assumes a couple of things. a.) You are not scared of the command line. b.) You can deal with a Debian text- or GUI-based installer without needing a walk-through. c.) You have a wired (ethernet) internet connection or a wireless connection without WPA encryption (the Debian installer ...

I like how Mint refers to Ubuntu as "one of our upstream sources." It's true.
