Re: Emerald Theme Manager

I don`t have experience xfce, but the terminal command to use emerald as your window decorator is

Code: Select all

emerald --replace
If this works the you need to add this command to your startup.

Alternatively you can use compiz fusion icon to change your window decorator to emerald.

Re: Wireless connection?

Sounds like you need to install a proprietary wireless driver. Of course to do this you will need to initially connect via an ethernet cable to allow Mint to download the required driver.
Then > Mint Menu> Control Centre> Hardware Drivers...to enable the new driver.

Re: Missing a few Compiz animations

The first one.
Menu>Package Manager> "compiz-fusion-plugins-extra" - For the extra animations.

Not sure exactly what you need in the second question, but the mouse settings can be found via Menu>Control Center in the Hardware section.

Re: Problems with Compiz Settings

Sorry Ian 59, just got back to your thread. I do not have a solution. Google gets a lot of results searching with: "There has been (at least) one error detected with your setup: Error: Software Rasterizer in use" http://www.google.com/cse?cx=002683415331144861350%3Atsq8didf9x0&q=There+has+been+%28at...

Re: How do I use themes?

I find Compiz Fusion Icon the easiest method.

Search for and install Fusion-icon with package manager. Launch Fusion icon (Menu>system tools).
Right click Fusion Icon (in the notification area) for options. eg select window decorator.

Re: how to resize pictures for emails - simple way

I use "nautilus-image-converter".
You`ll find it in package manager. Adds image resize to right click menu. Does single and batch resizing.

Re: Mint on DVD - Use of extra space.

That was my initial point. As Vincent says we all have different ideas on what software could/should be added and its simple to add what we need with package manager and software centre. Taking advantage of the extra available space to include more drivers would be of greater benefit, giving more us...

Re: LM 9 Isadora - Constructive Criticisms

I think a basic install of Open Office should be on CD. I also think GIMP should be included. If you are limited to >700mb its a tough call deciding what`s going to be in and what`s going to be left out.

Having both a CD and a DVD version gives users (as well as the Mint team) a choice. 8)

Mint on DVD - Use of extra space.

Nice to see Mint available on DVD. Seeing as there`s now 4.7 gigs available - Might I suggest the extra space be used primarily as a means of including as many graphic and network drivers as possible. I`m sure we could all suggest useful and popular applications that could be included on the DVD, bu...

Re: Even more Mint appeal - more games

I think Gnome games should be included simply because it creates a Games sub menu.
Some games don`t add to menu if there isn`t a Games sub menu already in place.

Re: ubuntu vs. mint

Coz its not Minty :D

Seriously if you are happy with Ubuntu 10.04 thats great.

Personally I prefer Mint and find it superior in a many of ways, especially out of the box, but each to their own.

Why not try Mint 9 using the Live CD and let us know how you find it compares?

Re: Noob Questions...

1. Yes Mint will run just as well if not better than Ubuntu. Mint is based on Ubuntu - but tweaked and polished and more functional out of the box :) 2. Compiz is different on different distros. On Mint Compiz is more functional than Ubuntu out of the box. Compiz comes fully installed and configured...
