Re: Mint Update no longer showing in task bar

Hi Carum,

Many thanks, but it doesn't seem to be something as trivial as that. It happens when I am asked for my root password (e.g. when changing a printer setting or applying updates). I am 100% sure I type the correct password, but the system refuses me.

Re: Mint Update no longer showing in task bar

OK, the icon seems to reappear with the above. Many thanks. But I am still puzzled why I sometimes am not able to log in with my root password. I am absolutely sure to type in the right one, no caps lock is on etc. but the log in window just gives me a shake. This panicks me a bit. Then, after a cou...

Mint Update no longer showing in task bar

I think I'd better make this a separate thread: After the latest update to Mint Update, it no longer shows in the task bar. This happens on all machines where I performed the update. Of course, you can call the application from the menu, but I am maintaining a few machines for less savvy computer us...

No proper shutdown?

Hi guys, sorry I have run into another problem I need some help with, please: I have a Dell Optiplex 780 that I boot with LMDE in German from an external USB HD. From time to time, I found that this installation gets messed up, which presents in some applets in the system tray not being loaded (Mint...

Re: Root account is locked. Cannot access console.

Hi, Sorry for the delay. Despite all efforts, I have not been able to get to a root prompt and have now started to re-create the original customised installation on a different disk (still have the USB, out of interest). I made, however, an interesting observation: I did the original installation on...

Many thanks both of you.

I will try all this and report back, but it may be a day or two.

Re: Root account is locked. Cannot access console.

Further update: I found this link https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/79159/i-have-to-press-enter-on-startup-raspberry-pi The Raspberry PI uses a Debian flavour called Raspbian. The discussion suggests that adding fsck.repair=yes to cmdline.txt The only problem is that we do not have cmd...

Re: Root account is locked. Cannot access console.

Many thanks for looking at it from so many angles. Let's see how many of your questions I can answer: > Do you remember seeing the "dm-raid45 not found in the module.dep" error before this problem? I don't remember seeing it, mainly because it may have flashed past too quickly. The thread below seem...

Root account is locked. Cannot access console.

I installed LMDE 3 on a USB stick. At first it seemed fine but then this came up DSCN1966.JPG Pressing Enter will make it try again but then I am stuck again there. The recovery options from the boot menu get me there as well, without any interruption to let me use a console. I've put quite a bit of...

Two problems after LMDE3 installation

Hi, For the past few years, I had been using LMDE2 32-bit and installed it on numerous computers without any problem. Since it has now reached the end of its life, I downloaded LMDE3 64-bit and tried to install it on 2 machines. To do so, I used brand-new, empty partitions, i.e. no old user profiles...

Wesnoth 1.14 ?

Hi there, Are there any plans to make Wesnoth 1.14 available? The repo still shows 1.10 (as published some years ago). I managed to install 1.12 when it came out, but I have trouble with 1.14 which was released earlier this year. The only solution may be to run it on Steam, but I'd rather have a gen...

Re: Odd problem with Firefox

Ah, I forgot about the "about:config". Many thanks.

There are a lot of options there and I will have to find out what they are doing.

For now, I disabled "gestures.enable_single_finger_input", which seems to describe the problem vaguely. Let's see if this does the trick.

Odd problem with Firefox

I seem to have an odd, quite annoying problem with Firefox: If I switch beween tabs and move my mouse too quickly, the tab gets attached to the mouse pointer, as if I still had the mouse button pressed. The only way to release it is to press the Esc key. It then either ends up as a new Firefox windo...

Re: 32 bit vs 64 bit [SOLVED]

Just found this thread and it made interesting reading. One question that has not been addressed: With regartds to software titles available in the repos (e. g. in Software Manager) right now, can anyone tell me which titles are ONLY available in 64bit? I am still rinning 32bit and my system (LMDE) ...

Re: Can LMDE kill a laptop?

The laptops are given to me because they are considered to old for Windows. They usually work fine with LMDE, but last for different lengths of time.

Perhaps the temperature could be a clue, although they do not feel unusually hot or set their fans to a higher speed.

Thanks anyway...

Can LMDE kill a laptop?

I know this question sounds rather odd, but let me explain: I am running LMDE on an old laptop in my office. I usually get a 10 year old machine for free or very cheap and as long as it can hold 2GB of RAM, it is usually fine. However, the odd thing is that over the past 2 years, I had no less than ...
