The screensaver is set to do this after 5 minutes so I'm not sure if it is the Screensaver or not as it doesn't take 5 minutes. But when I move the mouse to reactivate it, I have to login i...

Re: Was 9 worth the trouble?

If you don't want to learn Linux, that's your prerogative. However, don't blame the OS on someone's unwillingness to apply themself and learn how the OS works. Best way to put it. I've ran into quite a few problems with Mint 8, but they were from being a Noob to it. People need to think about somet...

Re: Windows Media 9 Decoder?

I tried several of my .wmv videos and they all work with Smplayer and VLC player. I wonder if.....It might be worth trying to (using Package Manager) completely remove and then reinstall w32codecs. Who knows - it's worth a try and it might work. Good luck. Tried this last night. It didn't work eith...

It will not come out of Standby mode. Just stays with black screen. Anyone found a fix for this anywher...

Re: Windows Media 9 Decoder?

I'll check out SMPlayer. Thanks for the suggestion. VLC does the same thing. It just says that there is no way to fix the problem. In Properties it says Windows Media video (video/x-ms-wmv) It is a .wmv Works fine in Windows. I put it on my sons PC and installed Sony Vegas to do the editing for now....

Re: Windows Media 9 Decoder?

Thank you. I just tried these and it still doesn't work...:( Still get this message. The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file? The search will also include so...

Re: Virtual Box keeps freezing

I allocated 1250mb ram for windows, that should have left about 1250 for linux and the rest for video.

I'll try getting the older version and see if it does better.

Virtual Box keeps freezing

I've been trying to install either Windows 7 or Windows XP. I fianlly got windows 7 installed once but it wouldn't load up afterwards. It just froze the screen up everytime and I had to do a Hard Reboot. So I got rid of it and tried installing XP home and Pro and both will freeze up when it gets to ...

Re: How did you get your Mint?

I'm on dial-up so I take my laptop to a WIFI location near by. I have had good results with no errors but it may take a hour or more. I'm curious how fast a cable modem and a new super computer can download a file that fills a CD? :?: The computer doesn't have as much to do with it as the Cable con...

Re: Windows 7 wins best netbook operating system.... NOT!

They need to do it by OS not by Distro. Windows, OSX and Linux, then Other would be the best way. Not doing it by each Distro of Linux, thats CHEATING on the results.

Re: How to get rid of KDE 64

Guess I could just go ahead and reinstall x64. Was wanting to keep it as it is all setup and working flawlessly.

Not worried about the windows bootloader, that one easy to fix.

thnx.
