Re: Playing CDs

You are using a strange definition of "play directly from VLC". @MiZoG has demoed 2 ways to open disc in VLC, one through "Open Disc" in VLC GUI and one through calling VLC in terminal. Both are playing the disc from VLC. It sounds like what you truly mean is "get a disc to...

Re: Playing CDs

“Maybe you should look up what the difference between CDs and VCDs is”. Thank you so much for the Snarky remark. It certainly was positive. The difference I have noticed between Windows Help and Linux help is, the helpers put arrogance aside for the common good. Would be helpful and more educational...

Re: Playing CDs

Oh, I see what I can do now. Play the CD using the command and as it plays record it with the Simple screen Recorder and then send that to my external drive. And no, VLC will not play it directly but will play the recorder screen video. Thanks again.

Re: Playing CDs

Yes, vlc vcd:///dev/sr0 worked. VLC came up and the movies played. SO, I need to run this command every time I play a CD? Will it play directly from VLC now? Thanks a lot for your help. Could I also copy this CD to an external hard drive and play it there?

Playing CDs

None of my CDs will play on Linux that used to play on my laptop with Windows. I downloaded the codecs package from flatpak, but that did not work. How can I get the right software to play these? I also tried VLC Player, but it didn't work. Thanks Edit: will try to add an attachment. Screenshot from...

Increase Sound

Would anyone know of an App in Flatpak or other that I could download to my OS to increase the PC volume beyond 100%. A sound booster is what I am looking for. I tried a few of the ones I thought would do that, but all are for advanced video producers. Furthermore, I am just looking for a “simple” s...

Re: Bad install of dual boot

Yes of course. Please excuse me, I apologize. I'm 78 years old and not as quick mentally as I used to be. The screenshots are attached. I had to break them down into smaller sections as this site would not allow such a large attachment. I hope this is what you wanted. I don't think I got them in the...

Re: Bad install of dual boot

No, I'm the one that missed something. I followed the procedure and got temporary internet via my phone. I downloaded drivers for both USB toggles that I have, which are in my download folder. But I still do not have a permanent Wi-Fi connection. Also, I cannot get back into Windows 11 to work with ...

Re: Bad install of dual boot

Respectfully, I cannot use the WI-FI on Linux as there is none. That is the problem I need to solve first so I can complete the Linux Mint install properly and get the necessary updates, etc. It is my understanding that Linux does not automatically attach proprietary drivers to its installs, that is...

Bad install of dual boot

Serious problems. I installed Linux Mint alongside of Win 11. The Grub menu comes up ok and I can log into Linux. However, I cannot log into Win11. The only reason I kept Win 11 is for the files, but I do have them backed up. It is fine with me to just use Linux as my only OS. But I have the hard di...

Re: Using The Virtual Machine

I have used Oracle VM many times on Windows. I always got the option to direct the VM to the OS needed to install. This VM does not give the option to do that. It is either there or it is not. That is the difference between the two. I found an old Windows 7 Starter installation CD I had from years a...

Re: Using The Virtual Machine

It is a new Win 7 Lite edition that came out recently. I wanted to try it on a VM to see how it works. The OS is there on my PC (attachment) but I will try to do what you said and place it in the VM if I can figure that out. I used the default parameters for the VM as I just wanted to see it. Thanks...

Using The Virtual Machine

Hello, I am new to Linux but really enjoy my Mint edition. I wanted to try another OS for use on another machine that I have. As a result, I downloaded the VM from flatpak. The trouble is, the VM does not find the ISO even though it is in the download's folder. I set up the VM with the standard gene...

Video Screen Recorder

Hello, I am a new user to Mint. Since I do a lot of video downloads for music off of YouTube, I downloaded the Simple Screen Recorder. But, it only saves a video file in one place, in videos on my hard drive. My SSD is only 240 Gugs so that will fill up soon. Therefore, I would like to download them...
