Re: What happens when Mint overtakes Ubuntu?

The last 7 day jump is only because of Ubuntu 10.04 release. My question was a general one, can any source distro tolerate a derivative distro becoming more popular? I have seen some of the comments on the forum about the work put into Mint 8, a lot seemed to be bugfixes for things that had not been...

What happens when Mint overtakes Ubuntu?

I have just been looking at distroWatch and noted that PCLinuxOS is at 1016 and Mandriva, the distro it was originally based on, is at 1174. Ubuntu is at 2387 and Mint is at 1584. Mint is catching up fast to Ubuntu, so what happens when the derivative distro becomes more successful that the source d...

Re: After 2 days Lucid Lynx

Ubuntu seems to have been taken over by the marketing people and I think that more of the distros will go over to Debian.

Have you thought of a cheap NAS server from Ebay?
They are cheap and energy efficient.

Re: Installed on external hard drive, GRUB problem

It seems that the USB drive is the one selected in the BIOS to boot first.
It looks to the GRUB you have installed there.
To do what you have suggested you would have to install GRUB on the internal drive and set this as the drive that is first on the boot order.

Re: What will Mint 9 mean to the average user?

Mint 9 will be the distro most Ubuntu users hoped they would get in Lynx.

When Mint 9 goes live you will hear a Scottish voice shouting. "The severs will no take it cap'n!"

Re: A new magazine for Linux and Mint users

Just a few minor improvements to the layout. I have changed the text to clarify that the magazine is 100% independent and is not endorsed by Mint or the Mint community. I will include the links to Mint sites as a useful resource to readers. I do not want the community to think I am misrepresenting t...

When you say "moving home" do you just want to move personal files you have or the configuration files that are hidden in the home folder as well?

Zwopper, I think the contest is now closed, Clem seemed to say above that those wallpapers posted on this site or on http://linuxmint-art.org/ will be considered.

Re: A new magazine for Linux and Mint users

No no, in my first paragraph states it is for Linux and Linux Mint users is not official as is clearly stated in the magazine. It is independent magazine to allow the community to issue an official magazine whenever they please. Well I need feedback to see if anyone likes the format, or even wants a...

A new magazine for Linux and Mint users

Hi, I have started to create a magazine for Linux and Linux Mint users. It is at the prototype stage with a sample layout and articles in full screen PDF format (Like the TUX magazine) I would welcome anyone to view it and give feedback. It seems that you will have to download it to use the navigati...

Re: can you recommend free hosting for PDFs

Thanks AndrewH, Google looks good! It seems that they have introduced changes since I last looked at there site, I will try to set up a Blogger account and link to the Google docs, though it seems that to view the viewer as well as the poster must have a Google account. I have a working draft of the...

Re: What will Mint 9 mean to the average user?

Call me old fashioned but stability is far more important than fast boot times in an LTS version of Mint.
Just how many times per day do we boot our PCs?

Re: Wallpaper contest for Mint 9

Well the designs deemed very derivative, like they looked at what had been used before and sought to create something similar. The mintCast contest produced a far better selection of original wallpaper! I must admit I liked the black leather one that had been seen on the forums, the texture and deta...
