This is what absolutely drives me nuts with desktops, the only one I've found that handles it is Kde so that's what I have to run. Probably no help if you otherwise like xfce though.

That's driven me cracked for years now and I dislike the classic menu too. Luckily I recently found the Homerun menu which I'm absolutely loving. It's what should have been there in the first place imo.

Re: ia32-libs and Kingsoft OfficeCorel Aftershot Pro on 64bi

Yup, but unfortunately every one of them want to uninstall basically everything same as that :-( Crazy, I cannot understand why I'm getting these sort of errors as I have no 3rd party ppa's enabled or anything.

Re: ia32-libs and Kingsoft OfficeCorel Aftershot Pro on 64bi

Many thanks for the help though, it's much appreciated ! Fyi I have just tried aptitude but it wants to remove 202 packages, basically all of X and Kde, gimp, totem etc, just to.. Install the following packages: 203) gcj-4.6-base [4.6.4-1ubuntu1 (saucy)] 204) gcj-4.6-jre [4.6.4-1ubuntu1 (saucy)] 205...

Re: ia32-libs and Kingsoft OfficeCorel Aftershot Pro on 64bi

Thanks so much for the help. I've tried that but I get this.. some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The fol...

Re: ia32-libs and Kingsoft OfficeCorel Aftershot Pro on 64bi

Hi, yes I did the update then installed the app. Checking foreign architectures show's i386. This lets me install say Kingsoft Office and it works, but it's a broken package (I get this during install - "dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of kingsoft-office: kingsoft-office depends...

ia32-libs and Kingsoft OfficeCorel Aftershot Pro on 64bit

Both these applications require ia32-libs which has apparently been deprecated. I've done a 'dpkg --add-architecture i386' then managed to install one, but that leaves me with broken packages so it's basically entirely useless as I can't even have both installed at the same time, let alone install/u...

Re: Cinnamon PPA a nogo at this station

There is a pin-priority setting you have to change as Mint's ppa has precedence over external ppa's by default. Do a search for pin-priority.

Re: N.S.A. Foils Much Internet Encryption

Because it's an attack on the very basics of democracy, e.g. the assumption that every citizen is innocent unless proven guilty, the right to privacy and so on. It's already being abused, staff spying on personal acquaintances, the nsa giving info to the dea who then lie to courts about their eviden...

Re: Steady Info to Google - hardcoded in Linux Mint ?!

Why on earth should the software updater be pinging Google constantly, I'm failing to see the reason for it? It's actually a package I uninstall immediately anyway but I'm be very unhappy about hearing this kind of behaviour.

Firewall that can control outgoing traffic on an app basis

With all the NSA spying revelations including backdoors I'm looking for a firewall that can control not only incoming traffic, but also outgoing traffic, but preferably on an individual app/process basis. For example, I'd allow Synaptic, Thunderbird, Firefox and tor/vidalia to go out, but deny every...

I'm running Kde and my Samsung laptop never shuts down, nor restarts, nor resumes when the lid is opened. Terminal commands don't work either.

Re: nVidia drivers.... need help

I feel your pain as I've spent the past month trying to install them but to no avail, the best until just the past half hour (and another full day wasted) being a black low res screen and a cursor that moves, and nothing else. However, I've just discovered that for some reason the X-Swap ppa works f...

Re: Totally prefer KDE to Cinnamon

Cinnamon is decent but for me the fact it cannot remember window sizes and positions drives me cracked. I also find Dolphin to be the best file manager I've ever used so it's win win for Kde in this camp.

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

Unfortunately nvidia seems to be broken for some of us on the latest kde. I'm fairly experienced and I've spent literally days with nothing but failure. The one time I somehow did get it activated was without libdrmnouveau which meant I had no workspace/window manager and it stopped working entirely...

Hi, Before it can install, you need a to install and set a preference for gcc-4.6 if your installation is using a compiler > 4.6. This is interesting as I'm thinking my nvidia woes with olivia are down to something like the kernel. Any more info on why it should be 4.6 ? From what I recall offhand ...

I've used nvidia since day one and have never had troubles until Mint 15 where I suddenly can't install any proprietary drivers at all without getting a black screen, same on kubuntu. Has me totally beat at the moment.
