Re: Operating system tracking website

I'm not sure if this is what you have in mind, but two websites (analytics tools) which I'm slightly familiar with are W3Counter and StatCounter:

https://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share

Re: Dumb Question re updating

Having just done a fresh install of Mint 19.2 myself, I can vouch for the helpfulness of the resources below. If you take a look at them, you'll have a better understanding of Mint and, if you apply them, a more finely tuned system: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/mintupdate.html Easy Li...

Re: Update kernel problem

Many thanks to Hoser Rob, Flemur and FreedomTruth for your advice in this thread! :D I have an older Nvidia integrated GPU [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430], and am using the proprietary Nvidia 304.135 driver. I found this thread, installed the 4.4.0-109 kernel and everything is working well. After verify...

Re: <Solved> Dirty COW bug kernel fix for Rosa?

I hope it's OK to post in a " Solved " thread; I decided to because I thought it might be helpful to others who have the same (aging) hardware as mine. This is a fresh 17.3 install, which came with the vulnerable 3.19.0-32 kernel. I was also concerned about whether the legacy Nvidia driver (304.132)...

Re: Editing the XFCE menu sort of thing

ahalin and grey1960envoy,

You're very welcome. I'm glad you found the directions helpful. Thanks for the kind words.

If the truth be told, Paul (parnote) did most of the heavy lifting on how to edit the menu; I don't think I added a lot of original content. I still have much to learn about Xfce ...

Re: Change keyboard language in XFCE

Good news! I'm glad that was all you needed in order to solve the keyboard layout problem. If you will send me a private message and tell me what type of keyboard you have (e.g., 105-key generic PC - US, AZERTY, etc.), I think I can send you a PDF file of Polytonic Greek / Spanish keyboard layouts f...

Re: Change keyboard language in XFCE

Hmm, it's curious that you don't have a Keyboard Layouts applet listed ... Within that window, they are listed in alphabetical order, so I believe you when you say that it's not there. My best guess at the moment is for you to check if the following packages are installed in your system: xfce4-xkb-p...

Re: Change keyboard language in XFCE

This is easy to set up: 1. Right-click on your bottom panel. 2. Choose "Add New Items." 3. Scroll down and find the "Keyboard Layouts" applet. 4. Click on the Add button. 5. Choose "Add layout." 6. Scroll down and pick the the layouts you want. In your case, that would be 6.a. Greece > Polytonic 6.b...

Re: Editing the XFCE menu sort of thing

Hi, You'll need to use the Terminal (aka command line) in order to accomplish this, as Xfce 4.6.x does not have a GUI-fied tool to edit the menu, AFAIK. You can start up the Terminal by going to the Mint menu > Accessories > Terminal. You will be editing the unwanted application's .desktop file, whi...

Hi, M_Mynaardt, In case you (or anyone else) is interested, I put together a brief how-to on adding a launcher to your Xfce panel. It is updated with screenshots from Mint 8 "Helena" Xfce CE, is 6 pages long and 481 kB in size. I placed a copy in my Dropbox Public folder: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/726...

Re: Questions: Mint on PowerPC

Hi, Ron, Congratulations on your new install! You're a brave man. I've considered the possibility of doing this but have never taken the plunge. Our old PowerBook has less RAM (768 MB) and a much smaller hard drive to work with (10 GB). I think its hard drive capacity would be the major limitation i...

Hi, Ron, This is an interesting question. I have a Mac laptop of similar vintage (running OS X 10.4 Tiger), but have never experimented with it in such a way as you're proposing. I did some Googling and found some links which might help give you an idea of what you'd be undertaking ... I hope that a...

Re: installing on a mac

I am not a Linux pro, but I thought their is no way we can install MInt on a Mac, you can only do that with Fedora, Yellow dog and so on, MInt is not written for power pcs. Yes, that's correct, if you're talking about older Macs with the PowerPC architecture. They have to run a specially designed d...

At this point, I don't know whether this is true or just an unfounded rumor. The only information I've seen on it was posted by a user named RevJack on both the Xandros and Freespire User Forums (on 9 May 2010). Those brief posts are here: http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=38333 http://forum...

Re: Installing Mint 8 on OSX 10.6 (simple question)

Here is a stab in the dark -- I apologize if you've tried these already and they didn't work: Shut down the computer once the disk has been burned and verified. Press the power button and immediately hold down the C key on your keyboard. This tells the computer to boot from the disk in the drive rat...
