Re: How to increase the UI size?
I increased the DPI. The whole system has a desired magnification. But not Firefox. The pages shown by Firefox are tiny in comparison to the rest of UI. Is there any way to magnify also the pages in Firefox? (Once and for all, not by magnifying each new page separately) If you have not solved this ...

Re: Trying to create Bootable USB Drive.
I just figured this out yesterday when I started working on creating a Portable linux install for a friend of mine. Maybe it will help On my BIOS the only way I can boot from my USB stick is to press f9 to bring up a popup boot menu that includes the USB stick. In the bios settings there is nothing ...

Nice Job - really nice job
In the past two days or so I've installed about 10 flavors of Linux from 3 major distributions for reasons I won't bore you with. I also won't bore you with why my two favorite distro/flavors of Mint Gnome and PCLOS KDE were not in the testing. Or why I spent so much time on it. The box I was using ...

Re: Overclocked cpu and Linux Mint KDE
If you set your overclock using software in Windows than that is your problem. Do your OC in the BIOS and then Linux will see your OC speed.

Re: Why don't most MB Northbridges have fans?
The hottest? The NB runs about as hot as a CPU with stock cooling. If your CPU ran uncooled it would fry in a minute. Because like capacitors, Mobo Mfgs cut corners where they can on low/mid range boards? Some Mobos come with elaborate heatpipe setups so NB cooling is not ignored. Because it doesn't...

Re: Showstopper when it comes to recommending Mint Kde
I get frustrated sometimes, but think of it this way, you didn't learn Windows in a day or in a couple of weeks. A lot of times it's something simple (like clicking or right clicking on the network icon in the systray). I have yet to see a distro (but I've yet to use Mint KDE) that there was not som...

Re: Mint KDE 9 stability issues
I'ts actually pretty easy and while you COULD seriously hose your system, you will fine as long as you don't touch anything that you don't know what it is or means. Simply you are going to go into your BIOS setup and Disable the Floppy drive in a few places. On the unlikely chance you do hose someth...

Re: Why is my laptop fan so noisy
On a 4 year old laptop it probably does not support spinning down the fans when the load is light. In 4 years a lot of progress has been made on thermal management on lappys so they can get by with fans that are spinning slower. Also fans have gotten quieter even when they are spinning up. Go to the...

Re: Linux Mint & kernel version: TRIM support
From what I have been reading lately the 'value' priced SSD's are not a good choice. The consensus seems to be buy a good (meaning more expensive) drive or wait for the technology to get better. I'd do some reading about any drive you are considering.

Re: How do I know what video card to buy
Also are you sure that it's the GPU that is your bottleneck? As Jason said we need more to go on to give you any good advice (but I made some general recommendations below) What processor? What current graphics card and how much memory on it? How much system memory? Compatibility is a moving target....

Re: new motherboard - how do i?
No. I'm not sure that it's the mobo but experience tells me that it is more likely to be failing in this fashion than, say, the CPU or RAM. Regardless, I want to keep all of the "." files (& the settings etc) in my 'home' folder as well as not having to re-install the various apps etc...

Re: new motherboard - how do i?
Did I miss something? Are you changing out the HD as well? Changing out a Mobo requires close to nothing on your part. I just changed mine yesterday and all I had to do in PCLOS was re-enable desktop effects since this Mobo has a newer ATI chip. Other than that I just made sure that virtualization w...

Re: Is LMDE going to make it?
At some point I fully expect to go to LMDE. Probably when I get bored with Mint 10 and/or when the next iteration of LMDE is released. I see it as MY Mint future. Can't speak for others. To don't complain if you don't contribute to it. This is the internet. The ultimate egalitarian court of public o...

Re: Please give me one sound reason, i need it....
Ummmm a good reason. Hmmmmm, can't think of a good reason except that it seems a little faster. I know there are lots of 'under-the-hood' improvements and no doubt new versions of apps in the repos. But in daily use it doesn't feel any different to me. Devede, Deluge, Banshee, Chrome all running hap...

Re: Unable to install Linux Mint 10
Mint 10 is at Release Candidate (RC) status. A Release Candidate has all the features and is a last check for any show stopper bugs before the GA (General Availability) release. The develoment life cycle goes like this: Alpha (not alfa) Beta (Mint uses a closed Beta) RC GA Release http://en.wikipedi...

Re: LM 10 installation and GRUB
3rd time is the charm I guess. Found it under manual partition. It is named descriptively enough : Device for bootloader installation. Where I got headed in the wrong direction was on my first install I clicked on that and for whatever reason only saw the physical hard--drive. I think there is a sli...

Re: LM 10 installation and GRUB
Thanks for the reply I did the use the manual partition option since I was overwriting Mint 9, and saw no place to specify the location of GRUB. I was looking at each screen very closely because I wanted to keep my existing GRUB and link to Mint like I did for Mint 9. I did the install twice and cou...

Re: LM 10 installation and GRUB
Read the release notes, read the user guide. It looks like in LM 9 the boot options were in step 7 of 7 where there is an advanced options button. I'm guessing that is where it is/was in LM 9.
I ran through the LM 10 RC installation again, and again I did not see any grub options.

I installed LM 10 tonight and I watched every install screen looking for where to choose where I want GRUB installed and didn't see it.
