Re: Seems Mint 17 Cinnamon "Qiana" doesn't exist!

Hexeta wrote: perhaps my miserly 2GB stick is the problem That may possibly be true, but I don't think the you can load the ISO if the device is too small to fit without getting a nasty warning message. What Ap do you use to load the ISO file? (I prefer unetbootin) LM 18.3 Mate 66-bit uses 1.83 GiB...

Re: Seems Mint 17 Cinnamon "Qiana" doesn't exist!

Hexeta ... Moem evidently doesn't have fun with USB LiveMedia systems, which is what I use exclusively. The answer is NO - none of the codecs nor Flash are installed in the default system, which is not really an "installation" on a LiveMedia. "Burning" the ISO onto LiveMedia is just a special load ...

Re: Seems Mint 17 Cinnamon "Qiana" doesn't exist!

Hexeta ... I don't know if you've discovered it yet, but as of LM18, Adobe Flash and the commercial video codecs are no longer installed in the default Mint system, so VLC is stripped of most of it's functionality. See: LM18 Release Notes Installing multimedia codecs offline To download the multime...

CODEC Install procedures yield DIFFERENT packages!

Esteemed Forum Participants & Lurkers: NOTE: LM 18.3 LiveMedia system from LOCKED flash drives. Mint surely has it's quirks. I started streaming videos in 18.3 , and installation of both flash as well as other codecs are required for various sources. According to the LM 18.3 Release Notes , to load...

Re: Driver For HP Laserjet 3150

abrogard: I went through this recently when I built a LM 18.3 LiveMedia system. I kept having to switch back to LM 15 to use my HP-5000 parallel port printer because it was the last version that would support it natively. I don't have the details of the Google search I did, but it ended up on the H...

Re: Will a Linux "Live" USB Drive Wear Out? If so, When?

Esteemed Forum Participants and Lurkers: : I have used Linux Mint Gnome/Mate nearly exclusively from LOCKED LiveMedia systems ( SD cards & Kanguru USB drives ) for nearly 10 years ... ever since LM-8. My hard drive is in a drawer with a key switch, and it VERY rarely is ever turned on. So far, I ha...

Shall all 3 address books in 18.3 shall kept as they are, or are they empty?
They are NOT empty ... I have been using them for several months. They need to be kept as they are.

Re: HOW TO: THUNDERBIRD: Copy ENTIRE address book all at once ???

Cosmo. : My LM 18.3 system has 3 address "books": > abook.mab . . . . Personal Address Book > history.mab . . . . Collected Addresses > impab.mab . . . . Imported from an older system If I remember correctly, the imported book took the name from the exported file name. My LM 15 & 17.2 system has 4 ...

Re: HOW TO: THUNDERBIRD: Copy ENTIRE address book all at once ???

AZgl1500 : Thanks, but I already know about copying profiles. That's how I run Thunderbird from a ROM system, with the profile on a writeable USB drive. I just want to pull some of the address books only from some old system folders. I usually just let Thunderbird set up the new profile because pro...

[SOLVED] HOW TO: THUNDERBIRD: Copy ENTIRE address book all at once ???

Esteemed Forum Participants and Lurkers: I have a few old versions of LM (8, 13, 15) on locked USB thumb drives, and I have the corresponding Thunderbird profiles on an email thumbdrive. It seems as though the Thunderbird "Address Book" is actually multiple individual address books ... Personal, Ar...

Re: [THANKS xenopeek!] RUST language: First experiments and some questions???

If you've gotten this far in this thread ... another hint: If you want to run the 'finished' version of the program ... no debug support ... cargo build --release cargo run --release If you just ' build --release ' and then do ' cargo run ' it will run the DEBUG version! xenopeek ... I wondered what the devil had happened to my post! At least I didn't post it in the "Newbie" section ... it seems that posts there get a LOT more responses than anywhere else. I didn't get any email notification that it had been moved [edit: Yes, I did!] , but found it when I finally lo...

bally1001 ... I run linux exclusively from LOCKED LiveMedia flash drives - either SD cards or Kanguru USB drives. Re: RTC same as UTC or local time?

Wompoo ... Windows and Linux are at odds with each other over the RTC (hardware) clock on your motherboard. Each OS needs the RTC to be set differently - Windows wants it set to the local standard time, and Linux wants it set to 'Zulu' time (GMT/UTC). Since I use Windows occasionally and boot Linux...

Re: Micro SD cards

2 quick additions ... I have had some problems with a couple of versions of gparted, and I just remembered that my daughter has a laptop with a flaky SD slot! Since it is not my machine, I don't run Linux on it - it boots Windows.
