Re: Micro SD cards

Why so you can be more insulting and arrogant? Sorry you took it that way ... it certainly wasn't meant as an insult. It is hard to be helpful with limited information. "Evidently", you are running a dual boot system ??? We still don't know what version of Linux you are running ??? Yes, there can b...

Re: Micro SD cards

2 quick additions ... I have had some problems with a couple of versions of gparted, and I just remembered that my daughter has a laptop with a flaky SD slot! Since it is not my machine, I don't run Linux on it - it boots Windows.

Re: Micro SD cards

holesovice ... Your post is a little puzzling ... Your title is: MICRO SD cards, but none of your rants mention "MICRO" - only "SD card". What on earth for Linux are you using? I've used dozens of SD cards without any problems in several versions of linux on many different machines, and in fact, I'...

Re: LM 18.3: Caja can't reposition items from command line???

I've done some more debugging ... The problem is that the Caja position METADATA does NOT get changed by the command. If I open a terminal window, change the metadata, and then do: caja --quit . . . the icon DOES get moved. I do that line by line in a terminal window, AFTER I have run the script. Th...

Re: HELP! Script to install printer in LM18.3 LiveMedia

[EDIT] - My apologies ... I had tried a different HPLIP process that didn't work with the parallel port. The process you suggested actually DOES set up the HP5000 printer device, and does (sort of) actually print! It jut takes a little over 5 MINUTES to print a Test Page. LM15 "Printers" install pri...

Re: How to Build a Distro based on Mint?

For our applications I do this in two st\ages The first is to install the Mint OS from a download followed by a bespoke install script for optional packages, icons and wallpaper, and finally our software packages. The install script is written in Python... Michael John ... could you perhaps attach ...

Re: Printer Help

I can confirm Pjotr's first point: "Connect your printer to your computer by means of a USB cable (even when you intend to use it as a network printer later on: for initial installation a USB cable is often needed). Then turn on your printer." Ahhhh JimAllyn ... I'll bet the IT guy(s) at his workpl...

Re: HOW TO? Control "mate-volume-control" in a script?

Thanks, jimallyn Yes, I always check the -h / --help and man page features. Some are excellent, and some are 'brain dead' like for mate-volume-control. The entries are different for help and in the man page (options listed in "help" are not even included on the man page!), and not very helpful at th...

Re: How To? Basic Inet Monthly Usage Monitor

You might consider another option, which is to make sure your local ISP cannot tell what you are doing. I don't care if my ISP knows what I'm doing. I just care that I know the Byte count they are getting from the DSLAM that feeds the DSL to my phone line. Thanks for all of the other suggestions yo...

if you are using Mate, then try Mate Netspeed & https://network-traffic-monitor.en.uptodown.com/ubuntu Most of these software solutions are "per machine" solutions. In our house we have my Linux machine(s), my wife's Windows machine, a laptop next to the TV that would typically be running a LiveMed...
