Re: Why are my applications not the latest possible version?

I struggled with the topic of this thread and in doing research, I have come up with the following method of having up to date software that is not in the repos. 1) Do a search and see if the desired project/software has a PPA. If not: 2) See if you can find a .deb extension file that has the latest...

Re: How to install software on Linux Mint

tittiger: try installing Google Chrome to automatically get the latest version of Flash
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

You should be able to install the .deb file as you would a .exe file in windows.

Re: Thinking of trying Linux. I have a few questions..

I forgot you are using XFCE (doesn't come with Xchat). Try this real quick: Open Firefox and go to http://www.mibbit.com/chat/ Click on "Server" and fill in the following in the "Server address" field: irc.spotchat.org Fill in your nickname Fill in the name of the channel (#linuxmint-help) Click on ...

Re: Thinking of trying Linux. I have a few questions..

I don't know what version of Linux Mint you're using. Maybe you already have "windows wireless drivers" installed. In that case you would only need to download the windows driver and transfer that with USB.

Re: Thinking of trying Linux. I have a few questions..

Try the "stock" driver I listed. If it doesn't work, then try the alternate/modified driver. If that doesn't work, report back here.

Re: Thinking of trying Linux. I have a few questions..

Also, I forgot to mention that Linux Mint has a built-in utility called Driver Manager that allows you to enable proprietary drivers for your system. It may require a temporary internet connection via ethernet to download and install the drivers for you. I've never tried using this for a USB wireles...

Re: Thinking of trying Linux. I have a few questions..

Bad news. Cisco does not support Linux on that device. However, you may be able to run a windows driver using an application called ndiswrapper. In order to do this, you must be connected to the internet to install a few software "packages" (applications) and download the driver. Hopefully the irony...

I don't see the USB driver listed. Plug it in and try the command again. Is it a BCM43235?

Re: Chrome and Flash issues - worked fine earlier

I'm also having this problem. I disabled the libpepflashplayer and everything seems to be working again, but... Now it's running an older version of flash, 11.2.202.243. The only reason I switched to Chrome over Firefox is flash updates. So confused? Guess I'll have to take up my beef with Google.

Re: help files

Newer versions of Linux Mint have an app called "Welcome Screen" in the preferences menu. You can also access this app by opening a terminal and typing "mintwelcome" (minus quotes). This should be a good place to start. It has the user guide, along with links to this forum, some tutorials and an IRC...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

Thanks for your hard work Clem. Does anyone know why I can't get get 3D acceleration on my NVIDIA GeForce GT525M to work? I have tried repeatedly installing and rebooting with the two available drivers in the "Additional Drivers" application. It says the driver is activated and currently in use. But...

Nevermind, I installed the latest version of Firefox using Mint Update and the problem fixed itself.
