Re: Timeshift cannot use mounts.

Why? Timeshift takes exactly as much space as it needs to create a snapshot of whatever you tell it to take a snapshot of. If it doesn't have enough space available to do that, a snapshot will simply fail. Your idea is thus flawed from the outset. That's exactly the potential problem, timeshift is ...

Re: Timeshift cannot use mounts.

I want to control just how much space timeshift can suck up. To this end I created a mounted drive from a file set at 20GB. Can you tell us more on that ? How did you do it ? I simply created an empty file of 20GB, then mounted it and formatted it as ext3. I followed the instructions here. http://s...

[Solved] [Not]Timeshift cannot use mounts... By design.

I want to control just how much space timeshift can suck up. To this end I created a mounted drive from a file set at 20GB. Since timeshift currently asks for 6.5G this is good for 3 snapshots. Do I really need more. After all, the only issues are broken updates. Anything else will be covered up by ...

[Solved] Using KVM switch causes screen size reset.

As stated below, it seems that this problem is resolved since Mint 18.1 I have a KVM switch between 3 or 4 different PC's 3 are linux (2 are mint) and my work one with Windows. I had this before, but somehow fixed but cannot remember what hoops I jumped through to fix it. On one Mint version, I can ...

Re: Why isn't the system info required for forum posts easy?

There's no Desktop info eg Xfce or Mate etc, it just says Gnome. inxi -S System: Host: my-kungfu Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: Xfce 4.11.6 Distro: Linux Mint 17 Qiana Surely, 20 years using Linux and bsd you've encountered man pages? Re: Why isn't the system info required for forum posts easy?

Thanks, that's almost too much info.... But it still doesn't report that the desktop is Cinnamon. So where is that information lurking that's in a form that's readable by a text clipper? Better stil, let's have some synchronism between Linux Mint forums (and their need for system info) and the tools...

Re: Why isn't the system info required for forum posts easy?

It seems that the problem may be with Cinnamon then.. root@Mint17[501]$ inxi -S System: Host: Mint17 Kernel: 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: N/A Distro: Linux Mint 17 Qiana But the 'system info' window registers the desktop as it is, 'Cinnamon' http://i58.tinypic.com/2heg5ty.jpg So it see...

[Solved]Why isn't system info required by forum posts easy?

Another hour wasted searching for what might be obvious to some :x It should be easy. I can go to 'System Settings' -> System Info. It's mostly all there. So what perverse notion made it seem like a good idea to use a non-selectable pop-up window? You cannot access the text to copy & paste !!. Can t...

Re: Amazon Search engine. Where's the localisation option?

Ah, thanks. Is this the only way though? Using the 'offical' Mint path seems designed to frustrate. There's no direct path for a 'noob' or someone like myself who simply gets frustrated having to spend half an hour or more searching for ways to achieve what, on any other system, would be simple. Ama...

Amazon Search engine. Where's the localisation option?

We get Amazon.com by default as a seach engine, but that's not much use if you don't live in the U.S.A.! So. simple question. How do I add amazon.co.uk or .de or any other of the local amazons out there? BTW, it seems that the forum search tool thinks it knows best.... it keeps changing my search te...

Re: 2 Disks, same UUID? Shouldn't happen, right ?

You'll get the same UUID if you clone the drive or set up md raid. I thought that the purpose of UUID 'Universally Unique Identifier' was to prevent that from occurring, each drive has a unique serial number, even different manufacturer ids. At least my system is still running, I need to fix the ba...

Sorry, no solution. Just want to confirm that I too cannot get anything to work through the wine menu. BUT I do have a populated wine sub menu. Just every menu item produces a pop up with ERROR file not found. Which file ??????? Don't you just love error messages that are completely useless. PITA I ...

Re: Boot Stalled with mdadm RAID (non system) setup.

Well, it was all going nicely for a while, and now I'm back to this again :x .... But this time it is on a LVM partition that's not part of my RAID. So the first seems to be a bit of a red-herring, it's a fsck at boot problem. I cannot even get the safe mode to get beyond 'press C to cancel disk che...

Re: Boot Stalled with mdadm RAID (non system) setup.

More confusing info... For some reason the /home is on /dev/sda6 when I boot with Mint but on /dev/sdd6 with FC12. When I run fsck.ext4 -n -f on this partition in Mint I get errors but not on FC12 ?? Does this make any sense :?: I see that the version on Mint is different from FC12 (which is the sam...

Boot Stalled with mdadm RAID (non system) setup.

This is a preliminary shot in the hope that someone knows an answer before I get home... , I'll add more details later if needed. An ASUS MB with a 64b Dual Core AMD cpu. On LinuxMint9 (64bit) (LM9) with a dual boot to Fedora FC12 (also 64bit). I can boot in FC12 and have my RAID LVM drive up & runn...

Re: Dual Boot 8 RC1 and Fedora 12 beta problem

Done it! After 4 weeks of pain (thanks grub2 :-< ). So FYI and anyone else's benefit. I have Mint & FC12 64bit installs on two separate drives, it may be different for everything on one drive. The setup was further made more complex by my disk arrangement. ATA DVD drive in IED0 (no IDE1) SATA HD 1 -...
