Re: Linux Mint 18.1 “Serena” Cinnamon released!

@Clem - While I appreciate the new version, I have a newer laptop with a Skylake chipset. When can we expect a release with a 4.8 kernel to improve support for these specific chipsets and hardware? Believe me, this isn't a slight against the existing versions, I've just got wireless issues with my ...

Re: Why doesn't MintUpdate update everything?

Looks like I found the issue. I had the level preferences originally set to display level 4 and 5 items, but I think the last update from 18.0 to 18.1 caused it to no longer 'stick'. Within Update Manager, I do Edit>Preferences>Levels and mark levels 4 and 5 as 'visible', but leave 'safe' as uncheck...

Why doesn't MintUpdate update everything?

I'm on Mint Cinnamon 18.1. I do a pretty good job of keeping it updated via the Update Manager. But I'm irked about one thing - apparently MintUpdate (or Update Manager) doesn't announce everything to be updated. I have it set to the middle option - show everything to be updated, but only automatica...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1 “Serena” Cinnamon released!

Noticed two things in the update from 18.0 to 18.1 1) MintUpdate reset the default of updates to safe mode (showing/OK to update only levels 1,2,3). I had it set to show all (OK to update levels 1,2,3; view only for levels 4,5) to get back to what I had. 2) Screensaver is not working. I have it tur...

How to remove (unused) floppy disk icon?

I have Mint Olivia XFCE 32-bit running in VMware Player. I have an icon for a floppy drive on the desktop. My machine has no floppy drive, so how do I get rid of that icon from the desktop? I tried deselecting 'Removable Devices' from desktop Settings->Icons menu, but that doesn't allow mounted CDs ...

Re: Youtube audio/video slow in Mint 8 (64-bit main edition)

I need to add one more thing I changed on my last install. In creating the virtual disk (40 GB), instead of the dynamic sized disk, I decided to go the fixed size route (so the entire disk was created at the beginning). This may have also contributed to the slowness of YouTube videos - creating temp...

Re: Youtube audio/video slow in Mint 8 (64-bit main edition)

I should add one more thing. I downloaded the 'frozen bubble' game the last time I was running and it was slow too (it has an audio track and sound effects). After my recent re-install, I downloaded it again, and now it plays the audio at its proper pace.

Re: Youtube audio/video slow in Mint 8 (64-bit main edition)

Another follow-up on this. I got so frustrated that I wound up deleting BOTH Linux Mint AND Virtualbox from my iMac. A day or so later, I had calmed down and decided to try again with VirtualBox and, this time, the 32-bit Mint 8. I got through the install and the guest additions, but this time, I cu...

Re: Youtube audio/video slow in Mint 8 (64-bit main edition)

After a shutdown and reboot of the VM, Youtube videos now playing normally. Don't know if it's a Youtube or an Adobe Flash issue, but I did go to another site prior to Youtube which also uses Flash and it was working normally there. Strange....

Youtube audio/video slow in Mint 8 (64-bit main edition)

I recently installed Linux Mint 8 x64 version in a VirtualBox under Mac OS X 10.6.2. Did all the updates. My machine is a an iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo running in 64-bit mode. Firefox (3.5.8) will play Youtube videos and audios but they are very SLOW in both audio and video (like playing at half-spe...

Re: Install Mint as VM under Mac OS X 10.6.2??

I asked on Usenet and somebody pointed me to the following web site: http://www.reallylinux.com/docs/linuxonmac.shtml I followed the instructions there, substituting 'Mint' for 'Ubuntu' and it worked! It's a beautiful thing to behold as it sees my hardware and even my network connection to surf the ...

Install Mint as VM under Mac OS X 10.6.2??[SOLVED]

I have a relatively new iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo - 4 Gig RAM, 500 Gig hard drive. Primary OS is Mac OS X 10.6.2. I've played with different distributions of Linux on some dedicated machines, but I've decided I want Mint installed on my primary machine (the Mac I mentioned above). However, I don't want...
