I do it like this, and have been for the last 7 years runnin linux, when I do a clean install I boot the live disk of the distro I want ... check all hardware functions , once I'm satisfied with that as root from the live disk I rename my /home/user folder to /home/user.bak. When I do a re-install I use the live disk, as root, to rename my home dir to home dir.bak do the install then copy my configs to my new home dir one at a time to ensure its what I want ... if not then its only a matter of mintues to reset my settings ...when all is done I chown my home dir to me to...

You say its only been loose since the MB was changed, was it the correct MB ? It might have a different size connector for your charger ? I would talk to Dell, forcefully, that the MB may not be correct since the charger fits very loosely since it was replaced ... If Dell won't help, you might find ...

first may I say congrats on an excellent setup an m8 ... one little change I would make it to replace the standard task manager with the smooth tasks manager ... I think its a more "polished" look ;)

Any way I'm sure whatever you decide will kick butt!!!!!!!!
