Re: Has anyone tried calibre from backports (2.75.1+dfsg-1~bpo8+1)?

Thanks for the reply, kevinthefixer. Just a little thing: it's not 2.50, but 2.5, much older. I'd say the biggest problem I've faced so far has been with the covers, as I can't download them. There's a plugin I want to try to generate them, but it always fails and one suggestion I found in the (cali...

Has anyone tried calibre from backports (2.75.1+dfsg-1~bpo8+1)?

I'm seriously considering upgrading my calibre to the newer version in jessie-backports, but I wanted to know if anyone has had any issues with it or if there's anything that I should be aware of.

My current version is 2.5.0+dfsg-1

Re: Please do some work with linux mint debian edition! You have abandoned it!

I must say I was disappointed by the fact that the LMDE ISO hasn't been updated (now it's been over a year!) and it's kind of a bummer to see how so many new things seem to be shipped into the Main Edition while LMDE users seem to be abandoned... But on the other hand, what exactly would I ask of LM...

Re: How to update your kernel for Meltdown (LMDE)

Mark them for installation and install them; I'd suggest you install all level 4 Linux updates I have a question regarding the level 4 updates. As they are suggested to be installed one by one, what would be the ideal way to install them? For example, should I install first the Linux kernel 3.16.51...

[Solved] How safe is it to upgrade D-Bus?

I'm asking this question because long ago, when the Update Manager used a different level system, D-Bus was included together with the kernel updates, if I remember correctly. However, now it is a level 3 update, unlike the kernel which is level 4. Therefore, I'd like to know if it is really a good ...

Re: Changelogs aren't available

There might be a difference, if a changelog is available online on the place, where the update manager expects it, or if the changelog is (after installation) available on your hard drive. Take a look into /usr/share/doc to find it. I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say. What I'd like...

Changelogs aren't available

I've seen this problem for a while now. In mintUpdate (Update Manager) it always says "No changelog available". Using apt-get changelog gives a 404 error, and Synaptic tells me that the changelog source doesn't support changelogs. The specific messages are: Synaptic: This change is not coming from a...

Re: So called lightweight Linux distros...

I haven't tried that many lightweight distros. Mostly, I've been using Mint. However, I've tried two distros that I think are worth a shot: Arch and wattOS . Regarding Arch, it was only to have a taste of it; I used it with a command-line interface, so it was obviously lightweight. wattOS is intende...

Re: Mouse problem

Well, I have moved to LMDE and I still have the same problem. After doing some research, I found something that seems to have solved the problem (I would still have to check in Isadora, but it's outdated now). I don't remember very well the explanation, but, apparently, the kernel "resets" the mouse...

Re: Encrypt subfolders

My biggest concern is about data integrity, so eCryptfs, with it "no sparse files allowed" defect, doesn't seem too good, but it may be just that I'm misunderstanding the issue. Yes, it seems I was confused: I was thinking of "sparse files" = "fragmented files". Even though it is a possibility, it ...

Re: Encrypt subfolders

Thanks for your reply, LZux! I have been reading a bit about encryption, and I certainly don't want TrueCrypt, because it requires space preallocation. It seems that EncFS is well suited for my needs, but it's a bit hard to decide... My biggest concern is about data integrity, so eCryptfs, with it "...

Encrypt subfolders

I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum to ask this, but I was looking for encryption software so I can encrypt both a folder and some of its subfolders. I have done some googling, and it appears that for my needs, the best software to use would be either EncFS, eCryptfs, or TrueCrypt (actually,...

Re: Two problems

First things first: in my experience, posting two problems on the same thread becomes very messy over time, so please post each problem on a separate thread and use appropriate titles, since "Two problems" is not very informative, so it can be easily overlooked. Also, consider the fact that if someo...

Re: Mouse problem

Since you had the same problem in both Mint 8 and Mint 9, I think it must be a hardware problem. I would just suggest you to maybe borrow someone's (like your neighbor's) and just test it. How long have you been using that mouse? Is it optical? Did you try cleaning it? All that I can think of now :...

Re: MinUpdate Changelog

Well, I read somewhere that they had solved it, but there is a problem: you should get a new version of Mint in order to see the updated "MintUpdate". The problem is I'm not sure how to download that single package. I did it before they changed the Software Portal, when it was pretty simple, but now...

Well, first of all, since I guess you come from Windows, I recommend you to read this: http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm It describes some differences between Linux and Windows, so you know what to expect. Secondly, I would say that you should read, as said on some posts above, because any info ...

Re: Mouse problem

Umm.. maybe it's a problem with your mouse. Did you try testing with another mouse? No, I didn't. I'll see if I can, but it's going to be difficult to test it because this problem of the mouse not working is something occasional (sometimes it works, sometimes it does not). However, searching throug...
