Arch's programs stability
Hi different distros' users!
Just wondering how stable is software in Arch? It updates too often. And mostly it is no good for stability. The distro might be pretty stable itself but what about programs from its repositories? You opinion (if you post it you probably have used Arch, right?

Re: KDE, XFCE vs others
So what's so great about KDE and XFCE? What are each one's benefits over Gnome? Thanks Do you prefer Gnome? :) I haven't really tried any other Linux GUIs. Well, maybe KDE some ten years ago. But it was only for a second, it felt bulky and cartoony. Trying it (them) now would waste blank CDs. Also ...

Re: Mint 8 vs Mint 9
I have not been long on these forums to exactly know the difference, suppose say I have Mint 8 - why should I switch or upgrade to Mint 9? You don't have to. But v9 has some differences. New versions of programs out of the box, new version of kernel, new supported devices, new tools... And when you...

[Solved] usr/bin/python loads system
"usr/bin/python usr/sbin/update-apt-xapian-index -q" (htop)
This thing loads my system on 100% for like a minute or a bit less everytime I boot Mint 9 Gnome. What is it?

Re: Linux Mint 9, wont start up
This is really enough for any distribution. So you need to look at your needs. Simple distros - Mandriva & Suse. BUT! You get the same system full of bugs (trust me: Mandriva IS "buggy"). Easy to use - easy to crash I would say... :) Stable distros - Debian, CentOS, Arch. But they are more difficult...

Yeah, migrate to Debian.dnmint wrote:Any advice.

Seriously, Ubuntu is awful! I hate the way GNU goes... It's a Windows way! Glamourous and "easy-to-use" OS. This causes almost all the problems we face. Mint is a great idea based on bad distribution.

Re: How to disable system sounds in Mint?
No, I just want to disable different "beeps" when popup windows appear, like an error. Sounds should work, but no system "beeps" and stuff. Mint system must be silent. Only sounds from programs that are supposed to play sounds (like browser with flash, audio players, video players, Skype, etc...).

Try to press different buttons on your keyboard until system boots. Next time it should be better.

Re: added new panel but can't see it or detect it
LM9 I added a top panel but it didn't appear....sort of. When I opened my browser the browser no longer reaches the top of the screen, but when I right click on the open space where the panel should be it's just as if I was right clicking on an open desktop space. I don't want to try and add anothe...
