Sure, will mark it as solved, but just one question more pls.
How do I backup/note down the necessary passphrase(s) so if I ever need to access my encrypted home folder externally, I can easily do so?

Re: PC starts with grub after shutdown
Ok, so seeing that accessing my encrypted home folder was not an option, I went ahead and restored the latest timeshift backup. Process took a few min and successfully completed. Rebooted my system and it successfully booted OK. I could log in to my user a/c and first impression, all seems fine. I w...

Re: PC starts with grub after shutdown
Thanks SMG. I tried following the instructions in the link you've provided, and I get stuck at step 2.6 Instead of getting the Mount Passphrase as in the HowTo guide, I end up getting the error: Error: Unwrapping passphrase failed [-2] Info: Check the system log for more information from libecryptfs...

Re: PC starts with grub after shutdown
It's not that im referring to multiple problems, but when I tried to restore from timeshift and I saw that the home folder had not been backed up, plus the dry run showed be about 6k+ files would be deleted, I feared files from my home folder were set to be deleted, thus I looked at the option of tr...

Re: PC starts with grub after shutdown
I do have time shift restore points, however I can see that time shift has not backed up any of the home folders. I can access my home folders from a liveUSB, but one of the home folders is an encrypted home folder and I can't access the private data. sudo encryptfs-recover-private . encryptfs/myhom...

Failed attempt at upgrading to Vanessa - now LAN shows "Device not managed"
So I wnet to upgrade my Linux Mint 20.3 installation to Vanessa, unfortunately at the finalisation of the installation the internet went down and suddenly the upgrade window closed by itself. Next step, I restored the timeshift backup that was done during the upgrade. All seems to be OK, just that n...

Re: Update didn't complete - Now Won't Boot
Unfortunately I don't have timeshift, and, I can't even boot into grub. From the time I boot up, I see nothing on the screen till I get the error message. I've even tried esc or shift but no luck. I booted the system using a Linux Mint Live USB and came to Disks to see if I can reach the boot partit...

Update didn't complete - Now Won't Boot
Hello, I was running one of the regular updates on my Linux Mint 19.1 and the update didn't complete, so I rebooted the system only to get the Kernel panic - not syncing error. https://i.ibb.co/2drxTPk/image-2021-07-18-113942.png I've tried booting with a live medium and using FSCK but no luck. I ha...

Re: System unstable after migrating to 17.1
I'm getting a feeling it's to do with cinnamon, so I thought I should set a cron to restart cinnamon @hourly with the command $ cinnamon --replace So before setting a cron, I just ran the command to see what happens, and while cinnamon successfully restarted, this was the output Cjs-Message: JS LOG:...

Re: System unstable after migrating to 17.1
As usual the system continues to freeze. However, the last time it froze, I have now booted the PC with a LiveCD and am pulling out the log latest log files from /var/log (syslog & kern.log) from my Linux Mint 17.1 installation on the HDD and am posting the output: http://tny.cz/6bb0d021 http://...

Re: System unstable after migrating to 17.1
Therefore it might be helpful if we could inspect these files. As kern.log and syslog overlap in what is being logged, I suggest to concentrate on syslog and syslog.1. You might upload them to Pastebin using these commands: pastebin /var/log/syslog pastebin /var/log/syslog.1 Each pastebin commandli...

Re: System unstable after migrating to 17.1
Hello, fkasmani. It might be helpful to inspect the system logfiles like e.g. /var/log/syslog. It might also be interesting to check the sizes of the system logfiles, because if there is a serious problem then one or more of the system logfiles might grow enormously large in no time at all. Would y...

System hang while opening compressed file - now short on spa
Hello, As I've explained in http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=190428 the way my system hangs, yesterday I had opened a compressed (RAR) file. Looking at the contents of the file, I double-clicked on one of the files in there to view it (a 4 GB file) I did not extract it - I just d...
