Re: Audacity Recording Level not working

Is the Mic visible in Sound Prefs? Have you selected it the "input" tab?

Re: Audacity Recording Level not working

David I just did a quick test with my AT9934 USB Mics on LM19.1 (Mate) Kernel 4.15.0.65 No problems at all. Just needed to select the correct input. The default audio mixer worked OK as did alsamixer when the correct audio device is selected. card 1: AT9934USB [AT9934USB], device 0: USB Audio [USB A...

Re: Audacity Recording Level not working

"The AT2020USB+ features a built-in headphone jack with volume control that allows you to directly monitor your microphone signal with no delay. It also offers mix control that blends microphone and pre-recorded audio" So it seems that the Mic has a number of features that you will need to take a lo...

Re: Audacity Recording Level not working

Hi David. What AudioTechnica USB Mic do you have? Some of them have mute & Vol buttons that can override the mixer.

Re: ScreenSaver doesn't come on

Have you tried selecting one of the other "screen savers".
Occasionally I have found some of the included options can do strange things (or not activate) depending on the graphic hardware.
Test the simple ones first. "Atlantis" seems to work OK on all the machines I have set up recently.

Re: Getting thinkfan to work

Just my 10c on T Series Thinkpads and Thermal Management. The embedded thermal management in the BIOS is mostly very good and doesn't need any assistance. There are real sensors, virtual sensors and composite sensors grouped into thermal zones. Generally LInux kernels do a good job talking to Thinkp...

Re: Getting thinkfan to work

Hello James-r. Thinkfan is a useful utility for the older generation Thinkpads. It's not so relevant for your T440 For all the newer generation machines the thermal management in the BIOS and newer Linux Kernels seems to work well. Are you seeing higher than normal temps? Have you cleaned the heatsi...

Re: DICOM files

Also worth googling Bio-Linux, to see what apps are included for what functions. Debian also has a version, called Debian Med.

@Amigo421.
Some MRI images are locked to a specific supplier. Some images may be encrypted. And some may be so large, that your machine cannot open them.

A thumbnail is a miniature picture, so it's probable that a translation engine used that meaning.

Re: Disaster after cleaning

Stefano. By any chance did you paste the command into google translate? Then paste the translation into your machine by mistake?

Re: Copy Timeshift to a new LM19 install

Agreed. Timeshift is useful but it is not a system back up tool.
Creating periodic images with Clonezilla and storing them on an external drive is the safest bet.
And keeping separate current backups of all your data is critical. (I also make periodic data snapshots and archive them.)

Hello Jason. You may find pyRenamer worth installing. It's very very useful for bulk file renaming / filtering / using substitution or deletion.

Re: Compose Key no longer works - Mint 19.2

Hi Rob. I use the Win key as the compose key. (it's not good for anything else) and haven't had any problems.
Have you checked through the full list of other mappings in LM19.2 to see if (right-alt) is bound to another function by default?

Try using realvnc viewer instead. Plenty of screen options to tweak.

Re: LibreOffice Writer randomly crashes

DDR-4. I had a similar problem with a Thinkpad E560 running LM18.x Mate. LibreOffice docs and spreadsheets would crash the xwin session, if the window was closed by the user, instead of being saved then closed first in Office. The Laptop is a Hybrid Graphics model and I assumed that the problem was ...

Re: PlayOnLinux problem

gazzol. This is old 32bit Win code. Even if you get it to run, I suspect you will have issues with the RS232 interface. And even more fun if you are trying to use a USB to RS232 converter as well. Not saying you can't get it run, but I don't think the playonlinux layer was really intended to talk to...

Re: Issues trying to encrypt a disk

Hello Linuxheld. Just my 10c worth but I would suggest that Veracrypt is not the tool you are looking for. It is very good for encrypting whole disks or partitons or files that need to be mounted after you have booted into your OS. It is not very suitable for whole drives that contain boot partitons...

Re: mintupdate -history export

Thank you gm10. Perfect. I should have realised that it was "dpkg" action.
Using timeshift snapshots to restore is often the quickest way to fix an update problem, but I learn more if I try to understand the root cause and fix options.

cheers

Re: mintupdate -history export

Old habits. When I see updates that are more complex and maybe have implications down track, I document and keep a record for "change control".
Maybe I have been in IT for too long...but it has helped me identify and fix a few issues over the years
