After upgrading from 17.3 to 19.3 Mate I can no longer print. I hear a connection being made and then the paper starts feeding but nothing is printed. I can use the Simple Scanner without any probs though. My PC is a Thinkpad T-61 and the printer is an Epson xp-440 connected via USB.

That particular fix worked because 17.3 used an older version of Mate than 19.3. The fix (if there is one) you need to use today would be in the gtk-3.0 folder. OK, booted the 19.2 DVD. Or I should say tried to. After the LM logo splash with the interminable 5 dot back and forth highlighting it changed to the error msg scroll. Boy, did I have 'em. Upshot is it kinda froze so I abandoned ship. I just downloaded another 19.2 iso copy and will try again.

Thanks for the tip. I will install 19.2, if I like it I will upgrade to 19.3 before loading the software I like. I was going to use Gparted to freshly format to NTFS before starting. Good move?

Yes, Mate is the look that works for me. I will run a new 19.3 and test drive it.... Just came across this and actually on that machine you should probably use 19.2, not 19.3. 19.2 ships with the 4.15 kernel and 19.3 has the 5t.0 kernel. The 4.15 is a much better choice for old hardware like yours....
