Re: Poll: Desktop environments
I really want to like Gnome 3 w/Shell. I can see much potential in it in the future if they get the kinks worked out. But I also like Cinnamon, so if a new direction is to be taken, that is the one I'd go with.

Re: I guess MS isn't all bad...
All these changes were bugfixes to Microsoft's HyperV virtualisation interface driver (not very interesting to most I guess), which has suffered from bugs for past 2 years and is still stuck in the staging area of the code tree because quality still isn't up standards for normal inclusion in the ke...

I guess MS isn't all bad...
This article on slashdot points out that a Microsoft Employee is the single largest contributor to changes in the Linux Kernel for the 3.0 release (for company contributions), and Microsoft as a company is the 7th largest overall contributor. I guess they aren't all bad... Wonder if Job's crew did ...

In 1977 they made a TV series based on this film. In it Jamie Lee Curtis, played the role of a nurse that was Tony Curtis' love interest in the original film.

Re: Will mint stop using gnome 2.32 in next release?
The Shell and GNOME 3 are stupidity. And the need for extensions is another proof of that. You should/could read my post here about GNOME 3... So, there's a difference between people installing conky, enabling compiz effects, changing themes, adding Cairo-dock etc. and adding extensions that integr...

Re: Will mint stop using gnome 2.32 in next release?
Thanks to a couple of the above posters for making something clear. Those of us who have been vocally criticising Gnome 3 don't hate Gnome 3. We dislike Gnome Shell. As long as we can still have our normal panels and/or preferred docks and such, with the same configuration we have now, then there i...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
c) one-click install packages which would work on all formats (ie like .exe in Windows, rather than .deb, .rpm etc) - possibly with a bolt-on interpreter? Then each distro could keep its identity while still allowing access to the full range of software. That right there I think would go farther to...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?
12. Their favourite apps don't work on Linux or cannot be Wined (or they have never heard of Wine). Furthermore, no Linux equivalent exists. This is especially a problem in the professional world. Solving this could go a long way to getting profit motivated corporations to adopt Linux more as the c...

Re: Desktop Linux less stable than OSX,.. and Windows?!
I have been thinking about my next laptop. I am giving serious consideration to buying one that is 'Hackingtosh' capable. That way i can run whatever OS(ses) i please. I have a feeling that i might end up with OSX as my main OS. I don't like Mac's prices, business model, vendor lock in and philosop...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread
Looking at everyone's pretty conky-lua action is making me jealous. Anyone got any links to good tutorials on how to make this stuff? I'm tired of cut and pasting other peoples scripts. I did not find any advanced tutorials when I searched last weekend. I found this reference is essential: http://c...
