Re: Start the name suggestions for Mint 9 LTS

I can't believe no-one's thought of Indiana yet lol? (Yes, it is a girl name) Inessa (Stormy) Iona (Violet, not green unfortunately) And now some good ones: Idola (Refers to Virgin Mary, this LM could give birth to something brilliant LOL) Illuminada (Illuminated, i.e. it has insight -> innovation) ...

[SOLVED] I can't play DVDs with Elyssa

I've got libdvdcsss2 and 3 installed and all the other packages recommended by everyone to play encrypted DVDs, and totem-xine won't play DVDs, nor VLC, nor mplayer. I don't understand what's wrong... Totem just says: "The source seems encrypted, and can't be read. Are you trying to play an encrypte...

Re: Linux Mint 5 Elyssa officially released!

Great work mint team! Another excellent release as per usual. I experienced one problem though: once I had installed mint, and rebooted, grub said Error 15: /etc/grub/message.elyssa not found, and I got no splash/background or however it's called. I had to manually change /boot/grub/menu.lst to say ...

Gtk buttons don't show up nicely

This problem happens in all programs which use the gtk engine to render buttons etc. I can't be sure if it's gtk's fault or the programs fault, but I have a sneaky suspicion that this has to do with the way that the themes are coded rather than the engine itself. It doesn't happen with the default M...

I don't know why, but for some reason, it doesn't show all of the updates even though I have ticked to view 4 & 5 packages, and even ticked them as safe...

Re: 2.6.22-14-generic omgwtfdairyqueenbbqpie

If nothing else works, you can always install another kernel (on top that is). You can download another (more up-to-date, faster) kernel from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=623874. You can install it by typing "sudo dpkg -i *zen1*.deb" (assuming that you can actually type in the bash promp...

Re: mintMenu 3.1 released in Romeo

Very nice indeed. :D This is one reason I'm likely to stay with Mint for a very long time :P. However, I installed a program in Wine, and it added the icon to start the program up, but it wouldn't load. It works in the gnome menu and in the terminal. In the end I had to write a script myself to enab...

Because Gutsy is so buggy, I think Ubuntu should do a rerelease when all the bugs are fixed. Loads of people can't even use Gutsy because it's so buggy, and applications like Wine aren't making debs for feisty anymore....

Oh, don't thank me, it's quite simple  and I didn't even make it, how lazy is that ?

As far as I know, there is an equivalent to the beryl manager applet called compiz icon. I'm not sure if it's in the repositories though.

Here is a really really simple script which I just happened to come across one day, and basically just switches between compiz and metacity (which mint uses): #!/bin/sh # click to start, click to stop if pidof compiz.real >/dev/null then pkill -x compiz.real && sleep 1 && exec metacity --replace els...

It says on the release notes page: "compatibility with all Ubuntu Feisty repositories and most Debian packages". Is this true or a copy and paste from last release notes ?

I've been stuck as to what to do, all I have is Sibelius, and I've got a limited amount of instruments to chose from. Anway, I've made something completely different (again)....
