Re: Which version for me?

I hope this is posted in the right place... I've been using Ububtu for years, and Mint for long enough that it is definitely time to upgrade! The mint team has done a great job keeping up with changes, and I find myself a little unsure of which version will best meet my needs, so I'm asking ...

Re: Very Happy with Linxu Mint 14

I used to use Ubuntu, but I hate these new interfaces: Gnome3, Unity and Windows Metro are just awful. I can't for the life of my understand why they think a touchscreen interface on a desktop computer is in anyway useful. Anyway I have used Mint since v7, and am currently using the Maya LTS. I must...

Re: Is there delay or lag between updates for Mint vs Ubuntu

No, they're directly from Ubuntu repositories. The only time there would be an issue is if mint blocked an upgrade in lieu of its own package. Say if Mint had a version of flash that was preferred over the ubuntu package. Other than that its direct from Ubuntu, when they get it you get it.

Re: Will mint stop using gnome 2.32 in next release?

I dont see whats wrong with gnome2, why change something that works. If there was a necessity for change..I never heard or saw anything about this. It follows a specific line..taskbar, start button, window list, systray, clock. These work, now suddenly we have plunged upon us something that looks li...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 22 june 2011

Intel drivers since the recent Xorg update are still really bad. extremely low fps on games, compiz is about the only thing that works with it. this is Mint Xfce and LMDE testing. Yet 1 week ago everything was rocketing.

Re: xfce "disintegrates" after installation

basically your window manager has died. quickest thing to do would be to reinstall. I only say this because short of installing a brand new xorg, i can't think of what else you could do. Testing seems to be borking Xorgs at the moment. I'm going back to Mint 11 because I use alot of games and second...

Re: How did you "learn" Linux?

I have always had a yearning for perfection. I first started with an IBM thinkpad t22 which was old when I bought it in 2005. It was running windows 2000 quite well, but I knew it was outdated. So I installed Windows XP, it was slow, but I didnt know that anything other than Macs and PCs existed in ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 15 june 2011

i suffered the same issue with intel, and i ended up using the xorg-edgers ppa (oneiric) connecting to the ubuntu oneiric repository (virgin Uk ubuntu) and basically installing the entirity of xorg from there. I couldnt think of any other way of doing it. what guts me is that the one that was alread...

Chromium,

The chromium in the repositories seems to be a bit old, I had an old apt sources list from when I was on crunchbang, and the version is 3 versions later (deb testing is 6 crunchbang is 9) So I thought I would give you the repository so you can upgrade your version :) Now I have no Key for it, so you...

Sorry to disappoint you, but theres no additional drivers program in LMDE here you go :) http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers#non-free_drivers If I had Nvidia I would be able to help you more, Try searching synaptic for Nvidia there should be drivers in there, the open source ones should how...

Re: Still confused about versions.

Hello, I want to install Mint on my laptop but I am confused about the different versions. What version is suitable for a newbie? I'm assuming it is Mint 11 RC. I'm in the UK and these are my laptop specs: Lenovo 3000 N100 W7 Home Premium Intel Core 2 @ 1.6GHz Ram 2GB HD 120GB All I use my laptop f...

Re: I hate Flash Player!

You could remove mint-flashplugin and install flashplugin-nonfree from synaptic.

this will download the latest version direct from adobe, unpack and install it for you.

However remember flash is very CPU intensive, and on older systems will often make it crawl.

Re: what can I do to make LMDE more stable?

Too much is being put into LMDE not being stable. It IS stable! It is at least twice as fast as main edition, theres also no noticeable difference in packages (from what I have seen). You just have to be a bit savvy, trust in the updates, and maybe ONE day, be prepared to get your hands dirty. I've ...
