Re: Spent some time playing with PCLinuxOS and Puppy

I have to take back my above post about Debian. I re-installed it and tweaked it, and now it looks fine, and I'm happy to have another stable OS that runs good on an older computer.

Probably upgrade but I'm not sure. I'm just getting Mint8 64 tweaked the way I like it.

Re: Mono or the GIMP?

Maybe we need to stop saying what needs to be removed and think about moving to a system which requires more than 700MB to work with, so only DVD or USB installs, although this could increase the likelihood for bloatware. . I hope you don't make it larger. I have one tower with only a cdrw and can'...

Re: Spent some time playing with PCLinuxOS and Puppy

I just tried GoblinX live cd. It runs pretty fast, even on this aging hardware. Interesting. I'll have to try it on my other, even older tower.

Re: Spent some time playing with PCLinuxOS and Puppy

I just looked at Mint 9 in the blog and it looks nice. I'll definitely update to it on my other tower. This one I'm getting some bugs worked out with FF crashing (64 bit bug- found the answer in Ubuntu forum, and fixedit , I hope), so I'll be reluctant to change for awhile. I'm running PCLOS LXDE 20...

Re: Spent some time playing with PCLinuxOS and Puppy

I've been a distro hopper for a long time. So many distros to try, why limit yourself? Got to love live cds. Great to be able to try before you install. My hardware is aging and some of the new stuff is too bloated (?) to run right on it. Mandriva for one. I heard so much good about Debian tha...

Thanks for this info. I hadn't yet realized MintUpdate was checking every 15 minutes. I reset mine to once a day.

Re: I need EVERYONE'S attention for just a moment!!!

Why don't you do a "build it and install OS from scratch" tutorial? Not everyone builds their own towers, and it would give the new builders, and those new to Linux a nice "how to". 8)

Re: I need EVERYONE'S attention for just a moment!!!

Yeah, I've used some Cooler Masters. They are generally ok. You can go ahead with the Rosewill and switch it out later on. I like Antec cases myself. I could never afford a Lian Li.
Good luck, and I hope you'll post some pictures of the new rig. :)

Re: How to add GetDeb.net to software sources

I "installed" getdeb from that link and reloaded repositories and got this error-
Failed to fetch http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/dists/ ... ackages.gz 404 Not Found
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Re: I need EVERYONE'S attention for just a moment!!!

Just a word about the case. I can't speak to this particular one, but I've built about 20 towers over the last 7 years and used different brands of cases, but the one Rosewill case I used was so flimsy I ended up throwing it away. I've kind of learned to avoid the Rosewill brand on anything, because...

Is there any advantage to running 64bit Fah on 64bit Mint?
I'm thinking of installing 64bit Mint on this machine (AMD64).
