Re: Graphics streaking

Pursuing the problem further with the "Easy Linux Tips" project seems to have been the fix...but we shall see over the next few days. Thanks again to Pjotr for the suggestion. In any case, he put me on the right track.

Graphics streaking

Not sure this is the right place but... I have streaking video on desktop...hard to describe but lines and bars flashing across the screen, particularly near the top of the screen. It does not occur on distros loaded from USB. I am running Mint Xfce 21.3 on an Asrock J3455 with onboard graphics, ker...

xfce desktop startup freeze

Intermittently, restarting from "suspend", the desktop will freeze with the mouse and keyboard frozen...nothing to be done but power-cycle. I started seeing this on 20.1 but also on 20.2 and 20.3. System: Host: paul-desktop Kernel: 5.4.0-92-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.16.0 Dist...

Re: Suddenly, Ookla's speedtest isn't working (Solved)

Testmy has been my standby for years but recently, speedtest-cli has been better as it does not rely on the browser to run the test. Just in the last day or so, it has refused to work, giving a lot of errors. To restore, the instructions at https://www.speedtest.net/apps/cli can be copied and pasted...

[SOLVED}Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

@cottcfan: I burned the fresh, verified copy of 20 Xfce to USB and installed it to a hard drive and as if by magic, your entry worked. Either something was screwed up in the original download or ?. The ? installation was an upgrade from 19.3 so maybe that was screwed up. Thanks.

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

I just downloaded a fresh copy of linuxmint20 xfce and went through all the steps in Clem's blog for verifying it. It passed. I am now burning to a USB drive and will run when finished. We shall see. The freshly downloaded and verified .iso works properly so now we will install it and see if redshift...

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

I get the same result as before...Malformed argument..." with a direct copy of your command. The light bulb shows up in the panel and the menu comes up as it should but if you try for "Info" the message comes back and the bulb and menu vanish. It makes me wonder if there is something ...

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

I was expecting an explicit button titled "Save" or something similar...this is a bit stealthy. In any case, that worked but the error message persists and I now have 3 "Accessory" items in my menu and I haven't figured how do delete the extras or get the remainer to work. Thanks...

Re: redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

I could not get it to work: First time with menulibre but could not find any close out button. I changed the command and crossed my fingers. It did not seem to help and I still got the "Malformed argument" message. The command may not have been changed. Running from command line with the r...

[SOLVED}redshift failure in 20.0 xfce

I cannot get redshift to work properly in Mint 20.0 xfce. From startup or from console loading it returns Failed to load redshift. Malformed argument. Failed to set manual argument. This occurs if I load without a redshift.conf file placed in~/.config/redshift. If the example file from http://jonls....

Re: rtcwake missing from repository?

You are correct. Not sure now why it didn't work last night and was too groggy this am...but I thought I saw a "not found" error. It is handy to bring a computer out of sleep if you have a data cap and a "free" period when most of us are trying to sleep but the command structure ...

[solved]rtcwake missing from repository?

I tried today to install rtcwake on two computers but got the following:
apt-cache policy rtcwake

Any work arounds for this? I had recently added it to another Mint 19.1 box but now it is not avallable,

Re: Just LM 19.1 test report

I noticed that icons on the desktop do not want to open, or if they do they take almost 1 second (or longer) to open. HTOP will not open from the desktop at all anymore. That is an issue. NOTE: It does open if I launch it from the panel but not from the desktop. What is your system and graphics ada...

Re: [SOLVED] Static IP in 19 Xfce?

This was always an ethernet connection (wired)...never wifi. The "Edit Connections" selection that a right click on the connection icon in the panel gets is the answer here. if you then highlight the "wired connection" and click on the little geared wheel at the bottom left, you ...

Re:[SOLVED] Static IP in 19 Xfce?

Thanks to all, I was able to find the settings in the connection gui. The command line methods are still a mystery to me but I was able to set the static IP. Normally, I would use the router to make this selection but in this case, I am trying to invoke the Asus router's "rescue mode" in a...

[SOLVED] Static IP in 19 Xfce?

This has probably been asked and answered but I cannot find it if it has...sorry in advance. I have beaten my head against a wall trying to set a static IP for my Linux Mint 19 installation and I am regretting ever having upgraded from 17.3. Searching here and on the web with google has been fruitle...

Firefox extensions borked and recovered

This morning I expanded my main partition for Mint with Gparted using my live 19 Xfce4 USB key. (When I had loaded the new SSD from a recovery snapshot, it loaded to the same partition size as the snapshot...half the new SSD) That went well but when I rebooted to the SSD, it refused to load past the...
