Re: How does one contact the Mint developers? - Re: Naffy

TBABill: Thanks for that. Exactly what I was looking for. ThistleWeb: As you might have guessed I am fairly relaxed about joke names. I used to be a digital design engineer and have worked with hundreds of software engineers all of whom would have laughed out loud the first time they saw Micro$oft o...

Re: How does one contact the Mint developers? - Re: Naffy

My question still stands: I have seen the threads about how bad Naffy Narwhal is but complaining amongst ourselves isn't good enough; we need to explain our concerns to the Mint developers. So my question is how do we contact the developers to raise our concerns? I don't want this to be another thre...

How does one contact the Mint developers? - Re: Naffy

I have a major concern about the development of the Desktop interface for Linux. I have been testing the Unity interface which is now the default in Naffy Narwhal and I waited for the final release to see if it was any better, but it isn't. With a bit more development it might suit a tablet but it w...

[SOLVED] Re: Alternate install for Mint 11 - When?

That looks great thanks. Useful for more than just LDME! I use mdadm rather than dmraid but the partitions and arrays are already set up so that should be OK. Also I need to consider the grub configuration because I want LDME to produce it's grug.cfg file but not write to the mbr which points to my ...

Alternate install for Mint 11 - When?

Does anyone know when there will be an alternate install iso for LMDE (or Mint 11)? I built my new computer with RAID and can't use LMDE or Mint 10 any more so I have returned to Ubuntu which isn't as nice to use and Naffy Narwhal appears to be even worse. The speed improvement with RAID is enormous...

Re: [SOLVED] What's missing in LDME to support RS232 in WINE

The answer is in the handbook! http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guide/misc-things-to-configure#AEN718 Some earlier versions must have recognized com1 on RS232 by default. For other versions and USB to serial adapters find the appropriate port in /dev and make a symbolic link to it as per the handb...

Re: ?WHY? Fix broken packages first.

Hi 3fRI Here's my beef with Linux--name the distro--because what works one day might not work the next. As a partial answer you need to be aware of the stability of the underlying Debian package. Mint 9 and 10 are based on Ubuntu which is based on Debian. Mint Debian comes straight from Debian but n...

Re: ?WHY? Fix broken packages first.

Hi tjweaver, When I used the terminal method (all in one line as shown in my post) it got as far as the apt-get upgrade, gave me a few build messages and then hung. No disk activity and no response to the keyboard. I did a ctrl-Z to exit the terminal but this left a lock file which stopped me using ...

Re: ?WHY? Fix broken packages first.

Thanks for the replies: Here are my thoughts: rivenathos and mockturtl point out the thread that is bringing the ideas together but there are two problems: 1) the title is "LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 16 mar 2011 by zerozero" If you have an error message "Fix broken packages first" you...

?WHY? Fix broken packages first.

After the recent major upgrade I had problems with the Updates program which said I had to "Fix broken packages first". I went through the forum and found several posts with ideas how to fix the problem including loads of apt-get fixes, dpkg configuration fixes, removing things and deleting lock fil...

Re: What's missing in LDME to support RS232 in WINE?

I don't get a bunch of random characters, just a text error message " Can't open Com1:". My program doesn't use the internet it's just a digital mapping program with connections to a printer (for map output) and the GPS (for track input). WineHQ gives recommendations on the version of Geko to use wi...

[SOLVED] What's missing in LDME to support RS232 in WINE?

A while back I raised a post regarding serial ports ( http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=64465&p=370886&hilit=memory+map#p370886 because I thought the version of Wine I was using was failing to talk to the serial port on LDME. Things have moved on and I am now convinced I was looking ...

Re: LMDE Wine and Serial Comms

Thanks for the idea but 1.3 doesn't work either; I'll add it to the list of failures!! I always worry that continual install / uninstall could introduce it's own problems. Maybe I should try again with a fresh LDME install in a spare partition. Wine version 1.3 is getting a lot of bad press at the m...

LMDE Wine and Serial Comms

I have been using Ubuntu from 7.04, then Mint from Mint 8 and have just switched to LMDE. (It seemed like a good idea at the time.) I have to use Wine to run a mapping application called Memory Map V5. There is no Linux equivalent. It has always worked acceptably until I came to LMDE; now I have no ...

I have now tried Mint 9 RC and suspend seems to work fine on Dell Vostro 1000, AMD 64.
Here's hoping.

Re: Anyone got suspend working on Dell Laptop?

A curious addition: I have a server which is used for distributed compilation (so the distcc daemon is running) and an nfs share, listed in fstab. If the server is up the laptop suspends and resumes OK but if the server is down the laptop generally won't suspend and if it does go down it won't resum...

Re: Anyone got suspend working on Dell Laptop?

Thanks for the replies. I turned off the screensaver and added nomodeset to menu.lst but still it wouldn't resume!! After much nashing of teeth I realized that uswsusp and kexec tools were still installed! I removed uswsusp and suspend has worked correctly for several suspends including lid closure ...

Anyone got suspend working on Dell Laptop?

I have followed several links to try and get suspend to work on a Dell Vostro 1000 but to no avail. The closest I have got is with http://blog.paulbetts.org/index.php/2007/02/11/fixing-software-suspend-hibernate-with-uswsusp-in-ubuntu-feisty-and-edgy/ but this doesn't work every time. It goes down e...
