Re: installed 'wtlib2016' from a dvd but it keeps crashing!!

Sometimes its worth testing a new .wine and re-installing I usually just rename the existing .wine to something like .~wine Then run the WTLIB install again If it works you can eventually delete the old folder you renamed You can also ask here for help https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sCla...

Re: Mint Not Installing On A Fresh SSD

But you can boot to the live mint system from a USB?

If you use Gparted first can you create your partition layout on the SSD?
ie; root, home, swap ?

Re: installed 'wtlib2016' from a dvd but it keeps crashing!!

You need to add the latest wine for wtlib To do that follow these instructions: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:wine/wine-builds sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --install-recommends winehq-staging If apt-get complains about missing dependencies, install them, then repeat the last two steps (upd...

Re: Time to clone and upgrade laptop HDD to SSD

Sounds like you already went ahead But I have done similar to what you are asking but I did it this way: Copy the entire HDD (running from a live USB system) and using something like this ionice -c3 ddrescue /dev/sda /media/sdx1/laptop.iso Writing it back to the new drive something like this ionice ...

Re: Some flash contents not playing

You know some sites are just plain awkward and don't comply with open standards, perhaps they don't even need to.

Trouble is no one can really test this easily unless they live in the area required

Have you tried the drm workaround using FF in wine?

It can sometimes be an issue related to the GPU - For example nVidia and the driver
It's a longtime since I experienced any issues though so I don't recall the solution/s

That was Easy

Just inherited, after a fashion, a laptop with Optimus Graphics (Intel/nVidia)

No jumping thru hoops in Mint
nVidia prime I noticed was already installed
I ran the driver installer and accepted the recommended nvidia driver
And it's all perfect

I guess you sort of answered your own question, though Ubuntu and Mint are so alike you may find it has the same issues. Always worth exploring whatever might work for you as it does sound like your machine has issues anyway

Re: Asus Laptop

No dice, the bios won't budge on anything. I tried usb boot. It won't save changes. Windows 10 doesn't disable Fastboot either. Some brute force is required IIRC I did work work for customers recently who wanted just Mint. But they were not ASUS though. Pretty sure I had to use Legacy mode in the B...
