Re: Close laptop lid without Mint closing down
Go to power settings and select what happens when you close the lid, I have it set to nowt so it keeps running. Under the Power option it's not possible to select what should happen when the lid is closed. Closing the lid does not shut down or put the PC in a hibernate state - it still runs but onl...

Close laptop lid without Mint closing down
I see that in Win 7 it's possible to set the laptop to "Do Nothing" when the lid is closed. Is there any way to do something similar in Mint Debian? I have external monitor, mouse, and keyboard that I'd like to hook up to the laptop.

Set Skype to run on start up
I'm sure the answer is right under my nose, but from googling and searching in this forum I've not been able to find out how to get Skype added to Startup Applications Preferences. I can find that menu well enough but not sure how to add Skype to it. Can someone help, pls?

Re: Can't install any software or update packages - new inst
Something wicked happened resolving 'debian.linuxmint.com:http' (-5 - No address associated with hostname) msm, this means one of two things (as craig was saying) - you are behind a proxy - check/change your dns I have LMDE installed on my laptop as well running on the same network and that doesn't...

Re: Can't install any software or update packages - new inst
I'm at work now so can't give you the input, but could it have something to do with the fact that I didn't set up swap, root, and home partitions when I installed LMDE? If you have enough RAM you don't need a swap partition. I never tried running without one but I know others have. I routinely use ...

I'm at work now so can't give you the input, but could it have something to do with the fact that I didn't set up swap, root, and home partitions when I installed LMDE? The complete hard disk was unallocated space and I just chose a / for the whole disk. I didn't follow the instructions on installin...

Can't install any software or update packages (solved)
I just installed the latest LMDE spin 64 bit, but if I try to install software from the Software Manager or via Terminal nothing happens. When trying to check the system for updates I get a long error message. Here's a shortened version of it: Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/dists/debi...

Blu-Ray in LMDE
I'm getting an Asrock Ion desktop PC and plan to install LMDE on it. There's a choice between the Asrock with or without a blu-ray drive. I'd like to go for the blu-ray drive but not sure if it's possible to watch blu-ray films in LMDE. Does anybody have experience with blu-ray in LMDE? Any specific...
