Re: Internal Mic won't work (tested w/Skype)

Do your hardware settings match the selected device as shown in my screenshot [Analogue Stereo Duplex]

If they do, then I'm afraid it's way above my pay scale - sorry.

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

A friend gave me an idea.... Normally, I only have 2 or 3 tabs open, but lately I’ve added 2 supermarkets and TV listings, so I wondered if that was the problem, although I couldn't see how. I deactivated 'Restore Previous Session', closed FF, and rebooted. FF behaved as it should. Pulled up 3 tabs ...

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

Thank you again.

I'm reluctant [aka coward] to mess with profiles unless absolutely necessary due to an unpleasant experience earlier this year.

I just did a reboot, and the same issue occurred when I started FF, but once started, I could shut it down and open up again without a problem

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

I don't see an option to do that.

Could I not just set the 'test 'profile as default?

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

Thanks - I'll have a play, but I can't understand why a new profile would be the answer when I haven't changed anything, and the same issue arises on a different computer as well. ETA..... It only happens on initial start-up, on both computers, so when I created the 'test' profile it behaved as expe...

Unusual Firefox behaviour [Solved]

Running Mint 19.3 [Mate] and Firefox 75.0 (64-bit). I have Firefox, Skype, Chromium and Thunderbird shortcuts on my top panel, and a 4-pane Workspace Switcher on my bottom panel. I have Firefox configured to Restore Previous Session on start-up. Until recently, opening FF from the panel shortcut it ...

Did you look in the Control Panel for Sound Preferences?

Keyboard layout changed without asking

In the last day or so my keyboard layout changed from UK to US, without any help from me. Looking at the Keyboard section in the Control Panel I found that only US was listed. I added UK, rebooted and all is well, but I'm interested to find out what could have happened. Other than my on-line forums,...

Re: new to linux

If you are in the UK, the current issue of Linux Format Magazine carries a cover DVD of Mint 19.3 Cinnamon.

Re: Suspend wakes up by itself

Good news indeed, but it does beg the question, why do these devices override the Suspend feature by default.
One would think that the only thing to cancel suspend should be opening the lid.

But way above my pay scale, so.................. :?:

Re: systemd-analyze

So this data must be from the recent "wake-up" - it looks too fast for a boot or re-boot....

Code: Select all

*****~$ systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 4.664s (kernel) + 2.292s (userspace) = 6.957s
graphical.target reached after 2.282s in userspace

systemd-analyze

Just a small query....................
If I run systemd-analyze after waking from suspend, is it showing that "wake-up" data, or the original day's boot data?

Re: Suspend wakes up by itself

I've had to correct this issue myself. Are you using a wifi mouse? If so, this thread explains my original issue last year - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=261465 These are commands I collated after having to rectify the issue again this year [after installing an SSD and Mint 19.3...

Re: How much time does Linux Mint takes to boot up?

I changed TRIM back to the default 'Weekly' and shut down for tea. Booted up, and ran ' systemd-analyze blame ' - no sign of TRIM So ran ' systemd-analyze ' and got... ' Startup finished in 4.641s (kernel) + 36.174s (userspace) = 40.815s graphical.target reached after 1.746s in userspace ' And that ...

Re: How much time does Linux Mint takes to boot up?

I have recently done a clean install of Mint 19.3 Mate on to brand new SSD. I followed "Easy Linux Tips" for "SSD: how to optimize your Solid State Drive" [here: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/ssd.html] which includes setting Trim to "Daily" I now find that Trim is the reason for a leng...

Re: LM19.3 Mates freezes on login screen

I did a clean install of Mint 19.3 Mate, last Friday. Laptop booted OK on Saturday, Sunday & yesterday, but this morning it locked and I had to power off and try again. This time it worked OK, but I found this thread and ran sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-all as suggested in the linked thread. ...

Re: Unable to 'Open as Administrator' in Caja (installed on Cinnamon) SOLVED

I have bitten the bullet and burned a DVD for Mint 19.3 Mate, and installed.
Of course, 'Open As Administrator' is there!
Should have done that in the first place instead of faffing around with Cover DVDs.

We, or rather I, live and learn.
