I always label each one so that I know what the configuration was for that snapshot.
That's something I'll have to start doing - thanks.

Re: TimeShift storage questions

I think I understand, so I repeat my original question: "Is it safe [or wise] to delete all snapshots except the first and last" ?"

Re: TimeShift storage questions

Yes indeed....
I suppose that it could be likened to Window's System Restore, thereby allowing the user to chose the restoration point, but if space is limited then one has to decide which snapshots to delete.

Re: TimeShift storage questions

A different question but still about storage..................

I don't have Timeshift scheduled, [rightly or wrongly I use it manually], and store on an external drive.
My question is: "Is it safe [or wise] to delete all snapshots except the first and last" ?
If not, what would be the best regime?

Re: Unable to do a WiFi connect by using the MAC addess

I may very well be wrong, but I don't believe it's an OS or device issue - I still think it's to do with the router configuration. Unfortunately, this now beyond me I'm afraid. Unless a Mint networking guru comes along, all I can suggest is to see if your router manufacturer has a Help Forum, or loo...

Re: Unable to do a WiFi connect by using the MAC addess

Have you tried rebooting the router? Anything here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2181530 You haven't given any details of your system nor router - these might help. Put inxi -Fxz into a terminal for system details ETA - it may also help if you post the outputs of ifconfig and iwconfig

Re: Unable to do a WiFi connect by using the MAC addess

Another thought.......are you entering the correct MAC address, I wonder? If you put ifconfig into a terminal, the number you need is the one on the first line of the wlp2s0 section. I'm not using 18.3 Cinnamon [18.2 Mate] so what you see may possibly be different. Make sure your not mixing "O"s wit...

Re: Unable to do a WiFi connect by using the MAC addess

As far as I remember there is nothing "OS reliant" setting up the router - not on mine anyway [TP-LINK Model No. TD-W8960N]
If all your other devices work OK then I suspect the MAC address isn't entered correctly, for instance it's very easy to put a semi-colon instead of a colon between the numbers.

Re: Unable to do a WiFi connect by using the MAC addess

I too, have the MAC filter enabled on my router.
I assume you have correctly added your laptop's MAC address to the filter?

Try switching off the MAC filter and see if you can stay connected.
If you can, then the problem lies with configuring your MAC filter.

Re: Lost panel buttons & Internet connection.

Thank you - that's very interesting.
After the re-install I ran Update Manager and at the Mint Update stage, there was a "warning" that some VirtualBox files would be removed.
Out of interest, I've checked Synaptic on this laptop and there is no VB installed, so I guess I'm OK.

Lost panel buttons & Internet connection.

On a different laptop, running Mint18, Mate, 32bit. All was OK when shut down, but on rebooting the following day, there was no Internet connection and some panel items were missing. I had two panels, top and bottom. In the top panel [normally the bottom one] the Internet connection and the Update M...

How to change file ownership? [Solved]

I want to use the HDD from an old laptop as an external drive for backups, which I have formatted in G-parted as screenshot.. I have installed it in a caddy which the laptop mounts OK. Screenshot at 2018-03-24 14-59-24.png I think I need to change file ownership from root to my username. I have trie...
