Re: Linux won't detect when I close the lid

I've had a similar experience. Sounds daft I know, but if you are using a wifi mouse it could be a configuration where the mouse is waking the laptop up. Try switching it off before you close the lid, and if the laptop stays in suspend have a read here https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90...

Re: Laptop Won't Suspend - Attempts to and Resumes

Please don't forget to mark the issue as solved.

I guess it's just something that the developers have either overlooked or aren't aware of.

Re: Laptop Won't Suspend - Attempts to and Resumes

...... Perhaps he might know if the issue persists in LM19.3. Sometimes upgrading to a newer release takes care of issues related to "newer" technology because the newer release has a new kernel. When I did a clean install of 19.3 on my new SSD, I had to repeat this procedure, so the mystery persis...

Re: Laptop Won't Suspend - Attempts to and Resumes

You can check if you have the /etc/tmpfiles.d. file in your file manager - see screenshot. If it's not there, then I'm afraid I can't advise, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will spring to your rescue. Re: Laptop Won't Suspend - Attempts to and Resumes

Have a read through this thread https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=261465 I've summarized the procedure I used thus: Rectify wifi mouse defeating Suspend [February 2020] Reference: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=261465 1) Run: cat /proc/bus/input/devices to establis...

Re: How to pevent Dropbox from auto-starting?

Tried removing from Start-up Apps, but it re-appeared on reboot.

Found it!
Auto-start disabled in Preferences, found in Icon drop-down menu.
Many thanks.

How to pevent Dropbox from auto-starting? Solved

Linux Mint 19.3 Mate.
I have Dropbox installed, and use it very infrequently.
Whenever I have used it, it stays selected in Start-up Applications, and I don't need this.
How can I prevent this from happening, please?

Re: Internal Mic won't work (tested w/Skype)

Do your hardware settings match the selected device as shown in my screenshot [Analogue Stereo Duplex]

If they do, then I'm afraid it's way above my pay scale - sorry.

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

A friend gave me an idea.... Normally, I only have 2 or 3 tabs open, but lately I’ve added 2 supermarkets and TV listings, so I wondered if that was the problem, although I couldn't see how. I deactivated 'Restore Previous Session', closed FF, and rebooted. FF behaved as it should. Pulled up 3 tabs ...

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

Thank you again.

I'm reluctant [aka coward] to mess with profiles unless absolutely necessary due to an unpleasant experience earlier this year.

I just did a reboot, and the same issue occurred when I started FF, but once started, I could shut it down and open up again without a problem

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

I don't see an option to do that.

Could I not just set the 'test 'profile as default?

Re: Unusual Firefox behaviour

Thanks - I'll have a play, but I can't understand why a new profile would be the answer when I haven't changed anything, and the same issue arises on a different computer as well. ETA..... It only happens on initial start-up, on both computers, so when I created the 'test' profile it behaved as expe...

Unusual Firefox behaviour [Solved]

Running Mint 19.3 [Mate] and Firefox 75.0 (64-bit). I have Firefox, Skype, Chromium and Thunderbird shortcuts on my top panel, and a 4-pane Workspace Switcher on my bottom panel. I have Firefox configured to Restore Previous Session on start-up. Until recently, opening FF from the panel shortcut it ...

Keyboard layout changed without asking

In the last day or so my keyboard layout changed from UK to US, without any help from me. Looking at the Keyboard section in the Control Panel I found that only US was listed. I added UK, rebooted and all is well, but I'm interested to find out what could have happened. Other than my on-line forums,...

Re: new to linux

If you are in the UK, the current issue of Linux Format Magazine carries a cover DVD of Mint 19.3 Cinnamon.
