Re: Avoiding using the mouse

You've said what you'd like to do, and the reasons for it.
What you haven't done is ask a question, or are you just seeking others opinions?
It might be helpful if you say what sort of computer you're using - though I suspect from what you've said, it's a desktop.

Re: No password option in Nemo GUI's "Compress Files"

Thanks for the prompt reply, but I'm not after anything quite so sophisticated.
All I want to do is password protect a folder in my Home directory, so that anyone using my laptop wouldn't be able to access that particular folder.

Re: No password option in Nemo GUI's "Compress Files"

Resurrecting this helpful thread....... GUI based zip encryption is still available although it may be different that you are accustomed to... but this is the way I always do it >>> Select file(s) and/or folder(s)... point to selected and right click... dialogue box pops up... the choice "compress" ...

Re: Strange background 'interference'

Well that's strange, with no help from me, it seems to have self-corrected.
Will leave topic open in case it returns.
But what to do about posting a screenshot of 873 kb?

Strange background 'interference'

My laptop has suddenly developed a sort of coloured 'interference' What could this be? Are my graphics on the way out? Rebooting doesn't help. I tried to post a screenshot but got a message " File too large: Screenshot at 2019-06-26 11-05-32.png " That's never happened before with a screenshot. norm...

Re: [RESOLVED]issue with update of Adobe Flash

The question still remains regarding alternatives to Shockwave Flash if required when not available. " But what happens to all the existing content out there that can be rendered only on the Flash player? For existing Flash content, the eventual, final version of the Flash plug-in will still work a...

Re: [RESOLVED]issue with update of Adobe Flash

Solved the Cards issue by installing 'pysol' from Synaptic - worth looking at if one is into card games.

Re: [RESOLVED]issue with update of Adobe Flash

As this topic is marked resolved, maybe I should've started a new thread, but this one seems appropriate. My wife plays mostly card games [including Aisleriot] in Firefox, on Mint 18.2. She gets repeated notices to update Adobe Flash, and when we try to do so, it merely tells us that it's already in...

Re: Can't mount SD card

So almost 2 years on, after several new kernels, an upgrade to 18.3, and prompted by a post on another site I had another try. The 128 MB SD card mounted right away, but the SDHC 16GB card took about 30 seconds to mount. Both cards have only 5 or 6 images on them. I therefore don't really have a pro...

Re: Intermittent failure of wifi mouse.

I have gone back to kernel 143, just to see what happens.
I'm unsure if updating to 145 was coincidental with the issue starting :?

Well that didn't help - shut down overnight, fired up today, still playing silly beggars. :(

Intermittent failure of wifi mouse.

This has only started to happen recently. From time to time and after the laptop has been asleep or completely shut down, the cursor will not move until I remove and refit the receiver. Trying different USB ports makes no difference. The mouse has a brand new battery. Any ideas, please? Linux Mint 1...

Re: Buying my first Linux laptop

You could buy a laptop of your choice without an OS and do your own installation. If you feel happier, post the spec. here for comment before you buy. If you can't source such a laptop in Denmark, it might be worth having a look here: https://www.novatech.co.uk/laptop/home/ They do trade with Europe...

Re: Skype not working anymore Updated

Resurrecting this thread because it seems Ghetto-skype no longer works on my 32 bit machine. It was OK last week, but when tried yesterday I got the message "Browser not recognised". Since Ghetto-skype is/was merely a browser to the "Skype for Web" site, I have to assume that Microsoft [bless 'em] h...

Re: top taskbar and bottom taskbar

I'm running 18.3 Mate. I was interested to see how Window List worked so installed it via Add To Panel in the normal way. Deciding I didn't need it, I attempted to remove it by right clicking to Remove From Panel - didn't work, I didn't get the usual drop-down menu. I had to delete the entire panel ...

Maybe one day it will be possible to donate in pounds sterling.......
I find it strange that we can't.
There must be many users for whom GBP is their native currency who would like to do so.
