Something I've just noticed, don't know how long it's been missing, also it doesn't appear in the list of "Add to Panel".
I can put it in a panel by right-clicking on it in the Menu, but after a reboot it's gone again.

OK, I ran Timeshift as suggested, and when the laptop rebooted, the desktop and icons appeared as they should, with no time delay, but.........
