Virtualbox troubleshooting please

Hello Folks, I haven't used VB for a while and now when I come to open it I'm getting errors, I may have guffed it up a while back trying to update it, I'll be honest I've forgotten now it was that long ago! Happy enough to reinstall if need be but thought I might ask if there's anyone with the know...

Re: Newbie - Can't Install Mint - Help Please

Can't help with the screenshot but as a means of deduction maybe try another desktop environment like MATE or XFCE. Failing that try another distro like MX17 and see if you get anywhere with that. I have an Intel system where yours is nvidia, it'd be my guess you may need a tweak to get that running...

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?

After a recent install on a little 10'' netbook I'd say I could be quite happy with MX Linux, very impressive.
In fact I'd go as far to say the last time I was that impressed was when I switched to Mint !

Re: Do most Linux users DIY or have OEM systems?

My previous desktop was a self build, my current desktop was bought assembled (but without OS) due to price and time constraints at the time, and I've had god knows how many cheap/second hand laptops, all of which just ran Linux Mint, and all did it better than the windows version that had been on i...

Re: Installing to an Acer Aspire One ZG8

You might consider giving MX-16/17 a try (I had totally forgotten about it; I'm going to try it out). It's available as a 32-bit version; #11 on Distrowatch. MX-16 was considered to be the very best Xfce distribution for all of 2017; as an added bonus, it had the best battery-drain characteristics ...

Kodi n00b ..... what do I need?

Just installed Kodi to my mint 17.3 desktop this afternoon.................... Not really quite got my head round it yet, managed to add some ted talks to it in video add ons, I'd like to add some sports, really only for the UK darts if that's possible?? I have no idea what I need, do I still need s...

Re: How to make Linux Mint reasonably secure?

Hello, what steps should I take to make Linux Mnt 18.3 reasonably secure. I#ve repeatly read claims something along the lines of "Linux isn't vulnerable to such things/there is no need for antivirus softwares or something like that" but its not like that would put me at ease much as this doesn't pa...

Re: Linux Mint vertification on Windows

Long story short as far as I'm concerned, go to the mint website, download via the option to use a torrent, and it's already verified, no need to check anything such is the nature of the torrent. That's how I've done it for god knows how long now after getting over the idea that there may really be ...

Re: Installing to an Acer Aspire One ZG8

My netbook has the same class of processor--an old Atom CPU--as your machine, as well as 2 GB of RAM. It runs LM 13 Maya beautifully, but would struggle with, and probably choke on any of the later LMs ( Mint 18.x Xfce is already up to 1.7 GB in size ; neither your Atom processor nor mine would eve...

Installing to an Acer Aspire One ZG8

Hello Folks, I've just been given an Acer Aspire One ZG8 notebook, I have just ordered a lead and adapter for it along with a 2gb memory upgrade (from 1gb) which should arrive next week. Has anyone here got one or done this install already and which version of Linux did you install? Are there any is...

Transmission vulnerability . . . . . . . .

Apologies if this has already been reported and covered, just came across it and as transmission is a widely used and bundled software I assume there will be a fix in the pipelines in the near future?

Well a day on and I'm not quite cured but I have gained some screen ! This is bizarre, clearly the last 'fix' didn't stick so any more clues for me please ???????????? I meant to add yesterday that toggling/quickly pressing F11 ' fixes it ' after bootup but it's not a 'cure' ...........................

Firefox odd quarter screen start up

Hello folks, not quite sure how to describe this so an image will do better at it than i can, but, basically out of the blue firefox is starting up in a quarter of the screen with scroll bars. Obviously I have no idea why or how and after searching and trying a few things like checking hardware acce...

Welcome aboard, you've picked my personal favourite, I've tried many DE's and distros and mint with Cin is just about as good as anything gets IMO.
