Re: No USB drive permissions after 20 to 21 upgrade
I've tried several times, both methods, None of your screenshots show you adding uid=1000,gid=1000 to your mount options. Correct, but as I said previously, I can add all the changes, apply and authenticate them, re-open disks, and the changes have all gone ! This is what I mean by ' nothing sticks...

Re: No USB drive permissions after 20 to 21 upgrade
I've tried several times, both methods, nothing sticks, so that has me wondering is there a step missing that you think is obvious or should be that's not been mentioned? Should I be rebooting after applying changes? Start a new session? This is not a subject I'm well up on, so I'm part guessing wha...

Re: No USB drive permissions after 20 to 21 upgrade
Post the output of cat /etc/fstab . I note you have the partition on the drive formatted fat32, not a good choice. I suspect you do not have uid=1000,gid=1000 in the mount options. dave@dave-All-Series:~$ cat /etc/fstab # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the univ...

Re: No USB drive permissions after 20 to 21 upgrade
Thanks for the suggestions but they don't seem to work for me, unless I'm doing them wrong, I'm not very well up on permissions and chown etc. I tried these steps in the first 3 images, then I tried opening a root terminal in the folder in the 4th image. so I opened up disks and tried to edit the mo...

No USB drive permissions after 20 to 21 upgrade
Hello Folks, Long story short - In the last couple of days I've upgraded from a 20x version to 21.1, overwriting boot & root but preserving /home. I had a few issues getting it installed and some grub install issues which are solved but may or may not have affected my install - I 'may' have left...

Re: Permission/ Installation issues after preserving /home
Apologies for the delay getting back to this - I'm still struggling ............................. I've changed the password in terminal using the psswrd command, worked fine. Nemo still won't let me transfer or move /copy files over though - plus - If I right click on a drive on the desktop and go t...

Re: Permission/ Installation issues after preserving /home
Not sure what you already know. Be aware the procedure to open apps with root privileges changed in LM19. Now you use a command in the form of pkexec nemo or xed admin:///path/to/file . For more info, see this article by Pjotr . Meanwhile, root password was dropped in 18.2. See this post by clem fo...

Permission/ Installation issues after preserving /home
Hello People, I have recently upgraded my Mint 17.3 install to 19.1 by overwriting the /root partition and preserving /home. Now I seem to have 3 issues - 1. I can't copy anything from any usb drive to another due to permission problems. 2. I can't change those permissions in Nemo as root as they ch...

Cinnamon panel & themes / losing preview
Hello Folks, Recently installed LM19.1 Cinnamon and after tweaking / changing themes I noticed I'd lost the preview from the panel.......... On first use after install the panel icons would show a preview when hovered over, and you could switch to a particular instance/ tab, but this seemed to get b...

Re: Icon sizes/resizing question LM19.1 ....... Cin 4.xxx
As I said in the first post, some of the icons are custom icons I prefer over the standard icons, (jpg's) so there's no point in changing themes.
If the ability to drag the icon to resize has been done away with, then I'll live with it. Cheers.

Re: Icon sizes/resizing question LM19.1 ....... Cin 4.xxx
This still doesn't solve my issue, I have an icon for computer that doesn't ' look ' the same size as the rest even after doing as you said. I wanted to use the option to resize it by dragging the corners like I used to in 17.3, when right clicking on the icon and choosing 'resize' would give me the...

Re: Icon sizes/resizing question LM19.1 ....... Cin 4.xxx
I have been clear, You've chosen to use the 'traditional' version, I didn't even know it existed, but I don't want to use it either way. In previous versions of cinnamon desktop, i.e on 17.3, I could right click and drag the icon corners after choosing 'resize' from the right click context menu, now...

Icon sizes/resizing question LM19.1 ....... Cin 4.xxx
Hello Folks, just reinstalled 19.1 to upgrade me from my 17.3 install I've had on my desktop the last few years. All's well except I can't figure out how to resize desktop icons? I'm on the cinnamon desktop and I've always had some icons for computer/home etc that I preferred to the standard icons t...

Virtualbox troubleshooting please
Hello Folks, I haven't used VB for a while and now when I come to open it I'm getting errors, I may have guffed it up a while back trying to update it, I'll be honest I've forgotten now it was that long ago! Happy enough to reinstall if need be but thought I might ask if there's anyone with the know...

Re: Newbie - Can't Install Mint - Help Please
Can't help with the screenshot but as a means of deduction maybe try another desktop environment like MATE or XFCE. Failing that try another distro like MX17 and see if you get anywhere with that. I have an Intel system where yours is nvidia, it'd be my guess you may need a tweak to get that running...

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?
After a recent install on a little 10'' netbook I'd say I could be quite happy with MX Linux, very impressive.
In fact I'd go as far to say the last time I was that impressed was when I switched to Mint !

Re: Do most Linux users DIY or have OEM systems?
My previous desktop was a self build, my current desktop was bought assembled (but without OS) due to price and time constraints at the time, and I've had god knows how many cheap/second hand laptops, all of which just ran Linux Mint, and all did it better than the windows version that had been on i...

Re: Installing to an Acer Aspire One ZG8
You might consider giving MX-16/17 a try (I had totally forgotten about it; I'm going to try it out). It's available as a 32-bit version; #11 on Distrowatch. MX-16 was considered to be the very best Xfce distribution for all of 2017; as an added bonus, it had the best battery-drain characteristics ...
