Re: No internet every other day this week

Thank you for your answer. I have been online for the last two days without any problems. So my problem is gone for now but it has not been solved and that bugs me. It also means that there will be little use in trying the things you suggested at this point. I will keep them in mind if the problem r...

No internet every other day this week

I hope somebody will be able to help me with this problem. I am running Mint KDE 9 (Isadora) on a triple boot desktop with Windows XP and Mint KDE 8 (that I do not use anymore). I am connected to the internet through cable at my work. This week I haven't been able to get onto the the net on Monday, ...

Re: cannot change default text editor

I am not sure if this solves the problem for you, as I am running Mint-KDE. But I have in the Advanced-tab in the system settings a File associations icon; in there I have successfully changed default file associations (in particular for text-files)

Re: Missing printer icon in system tray

I've managed to do a little hunting since my original posting. The "printer icon" is the printer-applet which I can quite easily start by sudo printer-applet & This brings back the icon but it does not respond as it used to: It used to only appear in the system tray whenever something was printing (...

Missing printer icon in system tray

I used to have a printer icon appearing in my system tray whenever I printed something; somehow it has gone missing. Can someone help me get it back, please? If I right-click the system tray and select "system tray settings" the printer icon is not mentioned anywhere (in particular the problem is no...

Re: Name that Movie

Not "The spy who came in from the cold". Excellent movie, even better book. And much higer quality than the books underlying this particular agent. Am I really the only Mint user who likes spy stories? Another picture: quiz-image3.png This is the bad guy; an evil ****. Played by a Swede (even if his...

Another image: The agent (left) being briefed by his contact quiz-image2.png A bit more info: The agent is played by an American, his contact by an Englishman (already knighted at the time of this film) The American actor has also starred with Elizabeth Burton in a classic based on a play. Feodor

Re: Name that Movie

Neither Dr No, nor from Russia with love. In fact the agent in this film, though British, is not James Bond.

But the time period is the same and John Barry also wrote music scores for Bond films.

Re: Name that Movie

Not many guesses so far. It is a very low quality picture, though. A bit more information: Even if the picture is of low quality, you can probably see that it is an older film. Mid-sixties. The movie takes place in Berlin; it is a spy movie. The chap on the left is our hero; the man on the right fol...

Re: Trying to install R, statistical software

http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/ has instructions on how to install R using "secure apt"; this will avoid the "no public key"-warnings (and -problems?)

Re: [Solved] Did ufw kill my internet connection?

Guarddog kept blocking me, so I googled my way to this link http://www.linuxformat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=67263 and was able to undo the damage (it seems/I hope).

Re: Did ufw kill my internet connection? [Solved]

Problem solved. It wasn't ufw that did it to me but guarddog. On first use, guarddog apparently shuts down all types of traffic in or out. I have now solved my immediate problem by opening all I could think of might be necessary for me in guarddog; I have web and mail back. I will mark this a solved...

Re: Tutorials (for novices) on accessing Windows networks?

This works for me: In Mint KDE, open Dolphin, choose Network -> Add Network Folder, then pick Microsoft Windows network drive. Fill in the Server and Folder with the correct information; Name may be anything. Save. A new folder should now be present in Network; double-click and provide your credenti...
