Re: Kernel installation does not stop
Embarrassingly, plugging the external hard drive out and in again (in a new usb port) seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you, Karl and Joe(?), for your help.
I'll mark this as solved and open a new thread if the problem reappears.

Re: Kernel installation does not stop
Hi Karl, Thank you for the effort. And the suggestions; I will definitely try most if not all of them. Having located the problem to most likely being related to the external hard drive, I am not as worried as I was yesterday. I think first thing to try is to unplug it, see what happens, plug it in ...

Re: Kernel installation does not stop
Thanks for the suggestions (and for agreeing that turning the power off is a really stupid solution - knowing it beforehand just makes it worse). It really is most appreciated. Removing old kernels is something I will try; I only have 4 right now, so I imagine that it is not those filling up my root...

[Solved] Kernel installation does not stop
I am on Linux Mint 20.2 cinnamon and have tried to install a new kernel (5.4.0-88, updating from 5.4.0-86). Installation seems to run smoothly until it updates grub when is gets stuck with the oldest kernel I have (5.4.0-74): feodor:~/> sudo dpkg --configure -a [sudo] password for feodor: Setting up...

Re: No internet every other day this week
Thank you for your answer. I have been online for the last two days without any problems. So my problem is gone for now but it has not been solved and that bugs me. It also means that there will be little use in trying the things you suggested at this point. I will keep them in mind if the problem r...

No internet every other day this week
I hope somebody will be able to help me with this problem. I am running Mint KDE 9 (Isadora) on a triple boot desktop with Windows XP and Mint KDE 8 (that I do not use anymore). I am connected to the internet through cable at my work. This week I haven't been able to get onto the the net on Monday, ...

Re: cannot change default text editor
I am not sure if this solves the problem for you, as I am running Mint-KDE. But I have in the Advanced-tab in the system settings a File associations icon; in there I have successfully changed default file associations (in particular for text-files)

Re: Missing printer icon in system tray
I've managed to do a little hunting since my original posting. The "printer icon" is the printer-applet which I can quite easily start by sudo printer-applet & This brings back the icon but it does not respond as it used to: It used to only appear in the system tray whenever something ...

Missing printer icon in system tray
I used to have a printer icon appearing in my system tray whenever I printed something; somehow it has gone missing. Can someone help me get it back, please? If I right-click the system tray and select "system tray settings" the printer icon is not mentioned anywhere (in particular the pro...

Re: Name that Movie
Not "The spy who came in from the cold". Excellent movie, even better book. And much higer quality than the books underlying this particular agent. Am I really the only Mint user who likes spy stories? Another picture: quiz-image3.png This is the bad guy; an evil neo-nazi. Played by a Swed...

Another image: The agent (left) being briefed by his contact quiz-image2.png A bit more info: The agent is played by an American, his contact by an Englishman (already knighted at the time of this film) The American actor has also starred with Elizabeth Burton in a classic based on a play. Feodor

Re: Name that Movie
Neither Dr No, nor from Russia with love. In fact the agent in this film, though British, is not James Bond.
But the time period is the same and John Barry also wrote music scores for Bond films.
