Re: Add Grey Border around desktop icons text?

I like the background too. The settings for this is in the file .gtkrc-2.0 in your home folder. here is my file for example: include ".gtkrc-white" style "xfdesktop-icon-view" { XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 50 font_name="Sans" base[NORMAL] = "#000000" base[SELECTED] = "#A7CC5C" base[ACTIVE] = "#...

Re: Gnome user switching to XFCE

Hello, I've been using Linux for about a year now and the only experience I have had is with the Gnome desktop environment. I have been reading up on the XFCE environment and how its faster than Gnome in many situations. I would have switched to XFCE earlier if it wasn't for me worrying about appli...

Re: Firefox fonts and menu mess. Any way to fix?

1) Fonts in Firefox look different from other apps. The GUI font is bolder then the rest of apps and the fonts on the pages is sometimes aliased and weirdly colored. I was googling for two days and tried every "fix" one by one with no effect. I've found 3 different variants of .fonts.conf - they di...

Re: Emerald & Firefox 4 on XFCE Debian

It will probably take somee time before we see Firefox 4 in Debian testing. Meanwhile, you can install it this way: http://linux-blog.org/install-firefox-4-on-linux-mint-debian-edition-lmde/ and to have better rendering of fonts in Firefox, I recommend this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=75...

Re: How to change desktop icon spacing?

How to change desktop icon spacing in XFCE? I want to reduce horizontal distance between icons on desktop, but I don't know how. Is it possible ? You can have some control on icon spacing by editing your .gtkrc-2.0 file touch ~/.gtkrc-2.0 add something like: style "xfdesktop-icon-view" { XfdesktopI...

Re: LMDE XFCE ram usage at boot

Hi, i currently using LMDE XFCE 64 but i noticed that the ram usage at boot is 190 MB while in LMDE GNOME 64 it was only 140~150 MB. Does anyone know why it happens and how can I solve this issue? And I also read somewhrere in the forum that the LMDE XFCE 32 use about 110 MB at boot. I find it stra...

Re: LMDE Xfce cursor won't change.

ahhh, I wonder why the other distros that run 4.6 don't suffer from it. a mystery of life I suppose edit: the link you posted is for xfce 4.4 btw. I've seen complaints about this bug in forums of other distros, and I have it on Xubuntu 11.04 (i.e. Ubuntu with Xfce 4.8 ). It's amazing that such a si...

Re: Why are my applications not the latest possible version?

Sometimes packages have seemingly recursive dependencies (adding X makes Y uninstallable, Y is waiting for X). This means the new version of X will break the old version of Y, but there's also a new version of Y that needs the new version of X. sounds like a time travel paradox from an old star tra...

Re: what makes mint LXDE faster?

It's true that LXDE is lighter than Gnome, but an improvement of x3 in fps is too big to be explained by that alone. My guess is that you had compiz turned on in Gnome. Compiz uses a big chunk of the computing power of the display hardware. If you turned compiz off in Gnome, I believe that the fps c...

You can control the looks of Qt apps by qt4-qtconfig you can find it in the Software Manager or use the command line: sudo apt-get install qt4-qtconfig Then you'll find it in: Menu -> Settings -> Qt 4 Settings If you want qt apps to use the same theme as your gtk apps: Select GUI Style: GTK+ File ->...

Re: Installation hangs near end-Mint 10 XFCE

I don't think that your issue is related to lack of memory. Sounds like a problem with GRUB. I think you have a better chance to get a good answer in the LMDE section of the forum, or maybe even in the Debian forums.

Re: Thunar is acting a bit odd

M_Mynaardt, this is a known bug in the Mint-X theme. Change to a different theme, and you'll be fine.

By the way the bug is not in Thunar, it also happens with files on the desktop. In Xfce the desktop is not managed by thunar but by xfdesktop).

1. I did a "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" and it went fine. I do not like the grey metal appearance of the desktop so I changed to black and changed the theme to to Redmond. The grey is too light and lacks contrast for my 85 year old eyes. phil, I think your problem may also be related to fact that there is a big difference in font rendering between Ubuntu ...

Re: Applications not appearing in mintMenu

By the way, I see that there are other bugs in mint menu on Xfce. For example Thunar does not start when you click on "Computer" or "Home". I bet it is looking for Nautilus. but I guess this is why Clem did not use it as a default.
