Gazza, I've tried to get my Quickcam STX working for literally over a year with various other methods. I'm running Linux Mint 9 (standard 32-bit edition) and your method works PERFECTLY for me. Thanks so much!

It's been days since I applied the video driver upgrades. Done a lot of word processing, web browsing, IMing, a lot of "enter" key hitting, and it seems that my Mint 9 Main edition install is perfectly stable, haven't had any problems!
Knock on wood, but I had the same problem but it appears to have gone away. I originally tried Mint 9 64-bit main edition a couple of months ago and it was great except for the random logout problem, which I couldn't figure out, so I went back to 8 after a frustrating week of trying to figure it out...

I have 3 different webcams, all Logitech. I know that you have problems getting programs (such as skype) to recognize your webcam for use, there are a lot of threads out there about how to build your own drivers using spca and gspca tools... I did all that. Turns out that Skype was just kinda flaky ...
