Re: UEFI secure booting and the future

One thing you forget is that (given M$'s deal with Novell) SLED/SLES/openSUSE are very likelly going to have their very own Pkek keys to be able to boot with UEFI secure-boot enabled. Which might become a way to get Linux working (The day that those 3 distros get updated to have the keys, someone is...

Re: 1.44mb floppy disks and "Good Old Days"

I still use them occasionally. I have a digital camera (Sony Mavica) that requires the 3.5 discs. I bought it new a number of years ago (1999 or 2000) and it still works perfect. When my friends ask me for my flashdrive, I say "OK. Here's my flashdrive" *hands over floppy* . People's reac...

Re: Dr DENNIS RITCHIE...our debt of gratitude

Dr. Ritchie was a great and very talented hacker and genius who made possible an entire range of OS's. Even Mac users owe him a lot of gratitude since without UNIX, Mac OS X would have never existed.

Re: Network Browsing (SMB) in XFCE Edition not available?

There should be an option in the mint tools to create a "Network" folder with all your SMB shares in your home folder.

Re: Plasma Theme Install (KDM)

I am so confused, how do I use plasma themes I get from http://kde-look.org? Their guide "http://kde-look.org/help/index.php?type=40" said to use "sudo apt-get install kdmtheme" but apparently that is not in my repository. I am very confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. "sudo apt-get ins...

Re: any way to install mint 8 inside win7 ?

You can't use the normal wubi to install LinuxMint because it's hardcoded to only recognize the official *buntu's. What you need is my customized version which I have put here . With this version you only need to add the diferent linuxmint versions to the isolist.ini file that comes in the archive a...

Re: IMPORTANT: Fluxbox CE Upgrade Path (02-11-2010)

I got a friend who is still on Fluxbox CE 6. Can he upgrade to FB CE 8 directly? Or would he need to upgrade to FB CE 7 (which BTW I can't seem to find the download link for it) first and then to FB CE 8? Note: His optical drive is on the fritz (and his PC doesn't have USB ports). Which means that h...

Re: Fluxbox and Google Chrome

It's a pretty strange thing you got going there. I say because Chrome only starts one process per running tab (regardless if the tab was opened in a new window or in the current one), this is what they call "sandboxing". But it should have only one process when you open the browser with no pages loa...

Re: porting to PPC

You'll need to note that Nvidia/ATI's propietary drivers, ndiswrapper, wine/cedega, flash, and any other non-OSS drivers/firmwares/apps for linux won't work in PPC as they're designed exclusivelly for x86 and most of those manufacturers doesn't have the interest in porting it to PPC.

Re: Touchpad left-click not working on EeePC 900

The "macintosh mouse" thing is actually the software that allows you to emulate the middle mouse button using the left and right ones. Despite the name. This software works in all the platforms linux supports.
