Re: Any interesting stuff in Linux's future?

This is very interesting...I hope it takes off. I want a few to test for different projects (education/surveillance/vehicle).

Re: Installing without CD

I had a similar situation and was able to boot from USB using "plop"

http://www.plop.at/en/home.html

I used the install to existing drive option and it was perfect.

I found plop from here...might help you get a better understanding:

If you want a GUI, try MountManager. It's in the repos.

Re: Another of the gazillions of file extensions. What to do

Can you put the burned dvd back in your computer and open it with the file browser so we can see if it was burned correctly as an image and not data?

Re: Problem with HP PSC 1210 printer and Linux Mint

You shouldn't have to reinstall anything. I use two of these printers and they work good with mint. Try the following: - make sure hplip and hpijs are installed - check that usb cable is plugged all of the way in. - turn printer off and back on. - try to make a copy of a document (manually by puttin...

Re: Typing on laptop moves to mouse position

@brianolee

Maybe try opening a terminal and type:

gconf-editor

Then navigate to:

desktop > gnome > peripherals > touchpad

and untick touchpad_enabled

Because there is a problem identifying the touchpad as a mouse, you may want to try adjusting the mouse values found at the same place...?

Re: Mint 8 Helena hangs (total freeze)

@rameshkarthik, I have the same chipset and the following combo was the only solution (I tried everything!!!!!!....twice!!!!). This has been working fine for me since April. Re: Mint 8 Helena hangs (total freeze)

Posting what worked for me, in case it helps others. I've been having the similar problems for close to a year now, when using gnome or kde on debian squeeze, ubuntu, linuxmint. Oddly, using fluxbox on debian squeeze stopped all of the freezes after a large(kernel, xorg) update about 6-8 months ago....
