Re: Fan speed support in Helena removed?
Meanwhile I installed a new version of lm-sensors, like mentioned in thread I've posted. Now I get sensor readings again (hurray!), but pwmconfig still refuses to work. This is strange... sensors gives me: acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +40.0°C (crit = +75.0°C) k8temp-pci-00c3 Adapt...

Re: Sound problems (sound crackling) in Helena
Ok, tried longer - seems to reduce the error, but does not remove it. The sound has still some flaws, but it doesn't crash completely like the last time. Maybe I try removing pulseaudio next... Edit: Again I got a crash - and this time the soundsystem crashed the x-server, too. It wasn't even possib...

I found something that might be an explanation: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1320309 Quote: Originally Posted by ScottHW Are there major changes in Karmic related to sensors, ACPI, or the like? ... http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1321293 Yes, doing some reading in that thread an...

Re: Sound problems (sound crackling) in Helena
I tried it, and it seems to work. Needs further research though, because yesterday I played just for a short time.
Yes, I would try it. If the crackling's gone you're fine, if not you can restore the line anyway.

Re: Fan speed support in Helena removed?
No, it's the same as before. It set to manual, so that those tools can take effect. I installed Helena just a few days ago, until then it worked with Gloria, and it still does with Windows and Speedfan. Just to be sure: Which commands do I have to enter? This is pretty weird. But all tutorials I hav...

Re: Fan speed support in Helena removed?
It's true, I forgot to enter "sensor-detect" - but after that I'm stuck again: sudo pwmconfig gives me the following error: /usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed Is there anything elso I might have forgot? This is really hard to configure, I wish there woul...

Fan speed support in Helena removed?
Hi, when I tried to recover the fan speed settings that I made in Gloria using this tutorial( http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/L%C3%BCftersteuerung ), I used the mentioned script "sudo pwmconfig". But instead of getting a list of detected sensors I got the error message "/usr/sbin/pwmconfig...

Sound problems (sound crackling) in Helena
Hi, since the sound was working on my hardware perfectly with Gloria, I was astounded to have those difficulties: When I play sounds with Helena, it seems to have problems with playing more than one musicfile at a time. I noticed it mainly while playing "The Battle for Wesnoth". The sound ...

...Speedfan - that gives the user complete control.. Yes for speed based on sensor temperature , so not entirely complete user control But that's what I meant: a temperature based speed. I already tried all that tools you've posted there and was able to slow the fan speed down - but it remains at l...

Tool for controlling fan speed
This seems to be somewhat troublesome with Linux in general: controlling the (cpu) fan speed. I recently bought a new mainboard with a not quite satisfying fan control via bios, so I switched to manual control and installed software solutions. While there is one excellent software for Windows - Spee...

updating an installation on a single partition
Hi, a friend of mine would like to update his Mint installation. Unfortunately he has only one partition with the whole system (/) on it, no separate home partition. Would it work to simply create a new partition, copy everything from the home directory to it and then use this one as the new home pa...

Re: cpufreqd killed preferences of applet
Too late, I already did a new installation, which fixed the problem. But it seemed to be real - the cpu fan was running at full speed the whole time.

Re: How can I permanently save the keyring password?
I deleted the keyring, but now it doesn't connect anymore at all... not even if I restore the deleted files. This is really strange, because I can still see the available networks.

cpufreqd killed preferences of applet
Hi, I just set up a fresh installation of Linux Mint 7 and wanted to try the program "cpufreqd". After installation the cpu frequency applet (comes with the distro) shows constantly 100% cpu power. It seems, that it's set to full power now. I can change the profil to 'powersafe' or 1 ghz (...

empathy still keeps asking... that's annoying, because it's like before, only that the password is for empathy instead for the network manager... i have to try pidgin next.

Re: How can permanently save the keyring password?
Hi, thank you for the advice! I searched for a solution for a long time... But one problem is now occuring: my instant messenger (empathy) is now unable to connect, although the internet connection is otherwise working. I tried to recreate the ICQ-account I use, but it then tries to save something t...

Firefox64 issues with extensions
I recently installed Mint 64 the first time and am very satisfied with its performance, but one thing is bothering me: Obviously it is quiet simple to make it crash, and the potentially biggest threat seems to be Firefox. I noticed, that a lot of extensions can cause not only Firefox but the whole s...

How can I permanently save the keyring password?
Hi, since several versions of Mint every time I boot my computer I have to type my password to get my wireless connection up and running. It says something like "some application wants to access the keyring manager". I already searched the forum database and tried to solve the problem by s...
